a few new pics today

In the summer of 2005 I bought a single fan of Moment In The Sun on the auction for $150. In September 2005 I took delivery, and it was a puny fan. I should have sent it back, and from now on I will because it may be a long time before it can be ID'd. It did not bloom or increase last year but this year it was a big fan and it bloomed yesterday. Today it bloomed again but I had to break it to get it to open...maybe the rain caused it.

I just hate it when I wait forever for something to bloom and then it's not what I bought. But almost every time, the mistake has been something I turned out really liking. At least your mistake was a good one. DOYLE PIERCE is absolutely beautiful, and you are hybridizing for blue eyes. The other photos are gorgeous too! I love them all, even "Mud Junior."

I was really dreading having to deal with a mislabeled daylily that was bought nearly 2 years ago. But the seller is sending me a fan of MITS, and I would rather have Doyle Pierce now anyway. Two years ago it was a different story. I wasn't into blue eyes then. Arabian Magic is an oldie that I am resurecting to use with my blue eye stuff.

I went to Daylily manor's website, and they have some great deals! They even have peppermint pinwheel, which ive been dying to have, but its still $50. But that is the cheapest ive ever seen a double fan of that one sell for. I had to save the website under my favorites list LOL! That pic was a FFO on a new plant last year, Mildred was the only plant that was new to me that bloomed perfectly, and rebloomed the first year. So far im pretty impressed. I did cross her with some other flowers, but I just dab, and don't label any of the pods, so some of my seedlings may be her babies! At least I hope so. This is my first time trying to bloom my own crosses. I just have all my seedlings planted in a huge pot, and we will see what comes out of them. Im not real serious about it, just playing around to see what I can come up with. Who knows, they may all turn out ugly! Im just keeping my fingers crossed that some of them actually bloom this year. I planted them last summer, so I don't know we'll see! -Jessica

Don, You garden is beautiful. Nice companion plants and good eyes to find the right matches for them and the hostas! Hi Chris, I'm in Eldersburg, just north of you I guess, right off Rt. 32 in Carroll County. Not too far at all. Just read the weather for tonight and they are saying patchy frost, so here I go out to cover up the garden and some annuals. Hopefully this will be the last time. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I can't believe Jade already has her blooms!! And, yes, she is trying to eat my bench ;-) You know I like First Frost because she is so orderly compared to my Liberty. BTW, I had to move both of them this spring because they were on a corner and last year DH kept hitting the one with the tractor. So now they are well protected back in one of the beds.

How old is your Mud Junior? Maybe the color will improve?

This is first bloom for that mud seedling. When seedlings bloom the first time they always bloom true unless there is a health issue. The color is set and will not improve. I will keep it till next year if it sets pods. Otherwise it goes to the pile. Even if it does set pods I won't value it much because it may throw mud all over the place.

Thanks for the compliment. It is the camera not me. I just know to take the pic in the morning in the shade, and to not have backlighting. I always keep the sun behind me even in the shade (they are in pots). The cream seedling will hit the pile too if I don't get pods. It really has nothing to offer unless I can sell the seeds. If I put great pollen on it maybe I can get a buck a seed. The mud seeds I will not sell...I just want to see if it can produce anything decent.

I really really really really like Doyle and I'm not that much into blue eyes. If you decide not to keep "Mud" can I have it? I will name it "West Texas Mudpie"
