Ilene, Since you're thinking it would be OK if the onions bolted, they'll probably be stubborn and refuse to bolt! (That's the kind of luck I always have, anyway.) I like your rainfall collection tank. I've wanted something like that ever since we visited the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin where they have a massive rainfwater collection/cistern system that is incorporated into all their buildings and is simply amazing. We have 5 ponds, 3 of which we put in here after we built the house, but they haven't had water in them in months. They do catch a lot of rainfall when it actually does rain, but I leave the water in 4 of them for the wild things and the fifth one is "mine" to use to water the veggie garden if needed. That fifth pond is on the northeast corner of my veggie garden and I can pump water out with a small sump pump or can scoop it out with a watering can. This pond is fairly small and holds maybe a thosand gallons so the water doesn't last as long as you'd think. If I had it to do over again, I would have had Elvis (our backhoe guy--you gotta love the name) dig a quarter-acre pond and I would have had him dig it deeper. It is going to be 75 or so here today, so I suspect we'll have fires again like we have the last two days, although maybe we'll get lucky and have calm winds and no fires. I'm not ready for the cold to return. All the fruit tree buds are swelling--even the Mexican plum which tends to be a bit later than the others. I guess the cold will be a good thing because it will slow them down, but I'd still rather be warm. The plum tree that's been in full bloom for days now probably won't set any fruit, or will set it and lose it to the cold, but I'm hoping the other trees will make up for that one. I looked back at my temperature records and noticed that when Feb. is warm, we always have a cold spell around the first week in March, so this cold front that's coming in is right on schedule. Carol, that is a very smart cat. In the afternoon our cats "collect" on the back porch where the greenhouse plastic and the afternoon sun keep the temp about 10-20 degrees higher than it is out in the open. I guess sitting or sleeping in 70-90 degrees on a winter afternoon is pretty appealing to the cats. That porch almost feels "too hot" to me at times. Yeah, you guys - rub it in! It's about 26 - 30 degrees (in your language) here, this morning. Some snow melted yesterday afternoon - but there's still some on the fields ... and a pile, in front of the kitchen window, where the landlord pushed the snow from the yard. When I walked across some, the other day ... it held me up! No garden to be thought of, for a while yet! ole joyful

it's always like a heat wave in orlando LOL but that's our normal :-) going to mid 90's today, humidity near 99% (as usual). last summer we set a heat record, 110 days straight at 90 or above then last winter set record cold with both lowest temps ever recorded and longest length of time at record cold. i was sure we were in for a record summer after a hot spring but it's been pretty normal thou a bit dry. norms right now are 94/77 for 2 more months then we trend down :-) the other evening i put a hygrometer from inside the house out on the lanai, it shot up to 99% humidity in a minute LOL brought it back inside after 15 minutes and it went down to 65% LOL that's dry for us :-) it had not even rained that day! ~ liz

Temp peaked at 89 F. It was partly cloudy and when the sun was covered, it was bearable. I worked outside all afternoon, but made sure I had my straw hat on and I positioned my work in the shade. 'Twas bearable. Dew point 65 F. Temp falling into low 70s tonight. My air conditioner does not have to work very hard to maintain comfy living quarters. Can't complain, but it may be more humid tomorrow and my project continues. I'm rebuilding a front walk made of patio stone. Was sealing the stones today to protect them from melting chemicals. That's what tore up the original walk.

I'm getting so antsy to get blooms here, scapes scapes everywhere though! So glad to see these pictures, LOVE MH, Jillian is so perfect, & pretty color on the unk. I have Velvet Eyes, didn't bloom last year. I sure hope it looks as pretty as yours.

Hey Fairysoapgirl, got any seedlings blooming yet? Make sure you post photos.

My nephew and I were looking at some of your photos while discussing my web site awhile back. I wanted to use water marks like those, but he showed me how to he could remove them on his lap top in no time at all. Disabled right click, he just did a screen shot, then whatever he wanted with them. No photos are safe.

Thanks for the great comments! I really didn't think I was going to like Miami Heat, but then it started to bloom! Now, I had to put it way far away from all other daylilies, so it would look good, and no clashing!

Julia - I have no idea about the spots, just thought they looked like freckles and were cool.

John, NO, geesh... I am waiting for those seedling to bloom! They are all busy putting on new fans, and no blooms... grrr... guess that is good though. I'll post photos when they do, I am so ready! I don't bother to disable the right click, because of screen capture. The watermarks are there so poachers know I don't want them used for them to make money off my work. If all the photos I post are originally watermarked and copywrighted, then I have a case, if I ever needed to go that route - in fact, if they go so far as to remove the watermark and use it anyway, more evidence for me. I don't mind people using them for personal use, but once you make money off my picture, some of that $ is mine! (via IPR - Intellectual Property Rights) :o) Nothing is ever safe from the serious bad guys... hence attorneys - ack.

Beautiful photos! My favorite is MIAMI HEAT - love that color combo. I agree about the use of watermarks...I think it's a good deterrent. It sends a clear message to the average pc user.
