Record breaking heat here in southern California. Even Weather.com cannot keep up with it. It is hot here, and I live relatively close to the ocean. Hate to think what it is inland. Must be near 100 there.

And I am about to turn both ovens on for our Easter dinner!!!!!

Was in the hi 70's yesterday, but cold front blew thru.

My "early" garden was a bust, even with shadecloth on parts of it, though I may have waited too long before shading. I grew 4 kinds of corn, all supposed to be heat & drought tolerant & got nary an ear, but it bloomed. On the other hand, my fall garden did well & I managed to get at least some tomatoes. My winter garden is peculiar--lettuce & some greens bolting, broccoli making loose heads, etc. In January. Just enough cold weather for my cabbage to start heading finally. I have planted a couple of cool weather tomatoes in hopes they will survive, but the others stay in for now. Most of the black tomatoes will continue to produce in heat & a few others. I find myself freezing more now so I know I will have it. Last year was a sure cure for complacency!

I can't bring myself to photograph them, but most of my roses look like HoovB's example. The biggest bloom ever, here, for R. banksia lutea was dried to tiny yellow crisps. And while poor "Grandmother's Hat" and "De la Vina Mystery" keep pumping out blooms, they turn into potpourri as they open. :-( Secret Garden Musk Climber has produced a massive blast of white blooms -- but don't look to closely . . . the dry air has crisped the lovely once-yellow stamens. "Historic Powell House" (?'Baronne Prevost'?) is a rare bright spot, and I sure welcome it.

I've never seen Dabo Girl before and that's a real pretty one. I don't know what you mean about Outrageous not liking the heat as it looks pretty good to me. Some daylilies have that character and some don't. When the leaves are brown and crispy I pull them off. If they are yellow you may want to wait till they turn brown. I don't think it will hurt the plant though if you do decide to pull them off. As long as there are plenty of green ones left. Daylilies are pretty hardy.

We had a sleet storm here today and honestly I've never seen anything like it before. It was like a snow storm except sleet. Come on spring!

It was beautiful here today, but too chilly and windy to go out without a jacket. Nevertheless, I picked daffys and forsythia for the table, cannibalized my boston fern for some greenery, and made a bouquet in my special daffodil bowl for the table. Makes it feel more like spring!

This week it is supposed to be colder, and cloudy. I feel another book-reading session coming on. Any recommendations?

Sheilajoyce,exactly where do you live?? I'm in Oceanside along the coast and it was Beautiful here today.Probably in the 70's here in my area but it was 82 inland oceanside.Nice breezes though,so for me it wasn't hot at all and we had 2 ovens going.I love days like this.Hope you all had a Happy Easter.

Seems like there could be a balance somewhere. It was 18(in OH)when we left for church this am. It was a beautiful day after the sun came up and got up to about 36. 75 would be great.

Two days ago, it snowed for almost 24 hrs - put down 15 inches. Today was bright and sunny, but by 6 pm, it was snowing again! We're expecting 2 more inches. In the record books, we have moved up to the #2 spot for the most snowy winter since the 1880s.

Kiddies needed to bring shovels for the Easter Egg hunt.

After I got home from sunrise service and brunch at church, I stayed in all day. I think we had a high of 32. Everyone was saying it has been many years since we had snow on the ground at Easter.

Yeah, you guys - rub it in!

It's about 26 - 30 degrees (in your language) here, this morning.

Some snow melted yesterday afternoon - but there's still some on the fields ... and a pile, in front of the kitchen window, where the landlord pushed the snow from the yard. When I walked across some, the other day ... it held me up!

No garden to be thought of, for a while yet!

30 degrees here right now. Everything is white! so pretty! It was 27 when we got up!
The sun is out, and it should warm up to around 50 or so. Nice!

It was over 90 in Anaheim over the week-end - way too hot from March. Hope it gets back down to at least the 70's. I hate heat, especially this time of year. The church was about 100 deg. & people were fanning themselves with whatever they could find.

It was beautiful here yesterday. Perfect day for Easter. Probably topped out at 75. I wish it would stay in the low 70's all year. I would be very happy. : )
