Mostly about Walmart and Amazon. I'm not complaining, I think it is just funny. They provide an arrival 'window' in which your item is supposed to actually arrive. But sometimes they run late. When they do, the 'window' changes to a slightly later time. I've had Walmart give me four separate (consecutive) windows for the same delivery. Walmart has a deal where you can actually see a little vehicle going town a road on your computer with the time before arrival. I had a Walmart delivery recently where the arrival was shown as one minute and then it rolled and showed 8 minutes.
The windows are still a good idea though, one has to just be patient with changes.

Door Dash has a vehicle tracking app, too. It's amusing to watch sometimes if I have nothing better to do.

Are the items being delivered perishable food that needs refrigeration? If not, why would knowing the exact delivery time in advance matter?

Hi ej3p They are located in Orleans, California- way up north toward the coast near the Oregon border. We plan on visiting them next Spring as we return from a trip to Bandon, Oregon for a much-needed vaca. Their url is www.rollingrivernursery.com. I bought these through the mail. They were very nice and called me to let me know that since I was located in California also, the shipping charges would be about half what I had originally-expected to pay. I thought that was really cool. I will be ordering from them again next year (although a bit earlier) so as to take advantage of the varieties that were "sold out" this year. I don't know if these things are cheap or not. Two inch plastic that I had no idea that weren't wood until I tried to clean them! LOL Hate cleaning them with a passion. Most of them are for windows that are much longer than they are wide. I've been doing them in a laundry tub, 1/2 at a time. (Dunk one end, soak and scrub, then flip them around and do it again.) I have one set that just won't fit. Going to have to try a bathtub with that one. I've been using one of those 'ultimate duster cloths'. The dust on some just wipes off. On others where windows are sometimes open to the elements, they're stickier and actually dirty, so I'm scrubbing with it. The truly nasty ones, I'm soaking in detergent and bleach water. Had ten of those. And someday I'm going to replace the bulk of these puppies with other window coverings. Ones that I can either wash in a machine or send to a dry cleaners. Blinds are for the birds! I like the idea of that for a birthday present! Unfortunately my birthday isn't until April. LOL

We've changed the stairs to come out into the dining room instead of the kitchen, giving us two more feet of kitchen (POs had put a hallway in where the stairs came out). We'll also be adding another foot of wall space by enlarging an opening into the back room off the kitchen. All of that and we'll still end up with around a 12x12 kitchen. It is a 1923 brick bungalow. The original subway tile (located under the 1960s panelling) was set onto the wall in a concrete and wire mesh bed so demolition is going kind of slowly. Too bad we couldn't save it, but the layout was horrible. We're going down to the studs and getting reworked wiring and non-leaky plumbing. I've enjoyed ordering lights from Rejuvenation for the project. The cabinets will be shaker inset in coastal white (not bright, but not yellowish either). The island will have beadboard panels and a butcherblock top. The perimeter will be Minas soapstone. No budget for fancy appliances, but still kinda nice stainless steel--KA sxs fridge & dishwasher (boy will it be nice to have a full size, built-in dw!), and a Frididaire range. Due to size constraints the island overhang will be less than recommended, and the pantry behind it will only be 18" deep. That's okay because we always eat in the dining room now and the kids are little. Glad to hear you'll most likely be ready for the parental visit. Can't wait to see it!

I already received and planted my 9 Alnwick roses from DA this spring. I have AL arriving from palatine some times this month. Ordered M Isaac C from Heirloom own root and one from David Austin grafted to compare. Also from heirloom Laguna and Antique 89. I really thought I was done ordering stuff for this year, but then I decided I really need to try and get some roses in the ground now so when I am done with residency I can have a more mature garden. So here is what I ended up with. Also got some Christopher Marlow they had left over.

So you can be sure to be home to receive them?

I rarely use home delivery but on occasion when I have, I time being home at the delivery time I selected so they aren't left lying outside.

We don't often but do occasionally have a porch pirate, aka people who steal deliveries.

I don't automatically assume something like that. It's important or thought to be important by some but for sure not by many others.

Many large-ish residential developments have centrally located delivery lockers that residents can use for such purposes.

For Amazon, there are its lockers and other pickup locations where deliveries are safely handled, for people living in places where porch theft is a real problem. Such places are all over in populated areas, less so or perhaps not at all in rural areas.

Today, we're waiting for an expensive piece of jewelry that needs to be signed for. We were told 9PM. All of us would be home then. The window changed to 11:30AM-12:30PM. None of us would be home. Knowing the timeframe, we enlisted our neighbors' help to get it signed. But yes, also to make sure we are keeping an eye out to avoid someone picking it up before us. It's a covered porch (hides things better) with stairs, so that likely deters folks. Also, our neighbors also keep an eye out. As do we, for them. Why tempt folks, though, and leave anything sitting out?

I realize that. I was politely trying to explain why someone may want to track the delivery so they can be home. In case they don't have a place where a delivery can be made. The Amazon delivery pick-up locations aren't always convenient. The closest one to me is 6.4 miles away.
