Blue / Purple Suggestions

I'm looking to add blue or maybe purple flowers to a bed where I have pink shrub roses, shasta daisies, and a variety of daylilies. I want something tall and spikey. I'm thinking of salvia. I have Victoria Blue growing in a different bed and I like but I'm thinking of something that forms a more substantial clump. Any suggestions?

Salvia guaranitica Black and Blue is a taller salvia that blooms nonstop for me and is very hardy. Ditto for salvia leucantha which blooms later in the summer and early fall. Baptisia australis is another dark blue flowering perennial that is drought tolerant. It blooms in mid spring but then has blue-gray leaves that are attractive and then you get the black seedheads later in the season. Although not tall and spiky, you could always have one of the many purple clematis weave its way through your roses.

I'm fairly sure that Sunny Border blue is "Longifolia" in the seed catalogues. "Sunny Border Blue" is the name they gave it to sell to garden center customers. I got plugs because they just happened to be available when I was looking for something else. For modern-looking iris: LOYALIST - a bright reddish purple - very late TITAN'S GLORY - large dark bluish purple - striking BLUEBERRY BLISS - gorgeous dark blue, I don't grow it, but it sure looks nice HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS - very dark purple and ruffly - extremely hardy and vigorous for me HAND PAINTED - purple and blue blend - I LOVE it and it reblooms Or, if you like the older looking ones there are two very very hardy oldies that are attractive: I. suggestions - gray (with purple tint) paint needed

I had to do a search to find this thread. Just a quick update. Well, today was crunch day and I absolutely had to make a decision & pick up the paint. The Browns just didn't cut it. I don't know why I even thought I'd try that route. I guess I was just frustrated that the grays were not working. gailrolfe I have to agree with you on how hard it is to judge the BM colors. Every one I tried that looked not too purple on the swatch was so heavy that they were a bust too. I went back to the BM store to get the revere pewter even though it was still looking a tad too greenish it seemed the best of the lot. Once there I also looked at the rockport gray (still too green in my space) & then decided to take one more gander through and asked to see the Silver Fox that laxsupermom suggested in the photo above. Thank You! I like it! It has a lot of taupe in the gray that will pick up on the brown in the cabinets and it goes well with both the floor & the granite. Interesting the formula mix is brown & green! Whew! The deed is now done! The cans are here for the painter and there is no going back! Thank you everyone for the suggestions. It really helps to have a paint name to check out. Silver Fox! What a pretty name for the paint. :)

Last year, I've unintentionally planted a blue and purple garden... I just somehow chose all these plants without realizing it.. Picasso had his blue period..I guess I had mine....

I have blue thistle, blue delphiniums, salvia blue midnight, several allium purple sensation, lavenders, iris, russian sages plus I had silvery lamb's ears, deep purple(almost black) peony poppies.

I agree that salvia leucantha makes a very substantial clump. It has some bloom in spring. The big show is in late summer and fall. It needs the very best drainage to be perennial for you, and early planting.

Agastache 'Blue Fortune' is great for the back of the bed, smells like rootbeer, tastes like licorice.

I have East Friesland Sage, lupines and may night salvia. Last year I also had some larkspur here and there that reseeded.
