Need suggestions for bright colored blue/purple/wine

that would look striking against a white house.

I just saw a picture of "navy blues" that is on one of the threads here and it is gorgeous.

Of course, I would like some that do well in NY Zone 6/7 - and if they multiply well that would be an added bonus. They can be solid or multi=colored.

If you go to the Argyle Acres website, you can search for iris by color -- they have purple and blue as separate categories. That could give you a start.

I. germanica and Crimson King are great purples and very easy.

I am a west-coast rose grower and would recommend one that I grow, the floribunda "Love Potion." It fits your width restriction, has glossy, disease-resistant foliage and gives plenty of fragrant, lavender blooms. (re: real blackspot -- that shouldn't be a problem in your area, but it resists that too) I will put a link to the HelpMeFind description, and you can click on the photos tab for more pictures. Love blue-grays. We recently chose BM Affinity color Tranquility (Aura) for our basement bath (which has no windows so no natural light). Lovely, soothing color. Crystalline is a touch paler and also beautiful. I'd posted some photos of Affinity blue-gray sample cards in my blog. I have the paint ready, and I'm planning to paint within a few days. I would definitely go more blue than I would gray. I think it would be beautiful with the black furniture. I can picture a room that someone on here did, but I can't remember if they used blue or green on the walls. I remember they had black furniture and they had a four poster bed. Does anyone know who I'm talking about. I think the style was a little on the contemporary side, but I'm not positive. Laurie

I had to do a search to find this thread. Just a quick update. Well, today was crunch day and I absolutely had to make a decision & pick up the paint. The Browns just didn't cut it. I don't know why I even thought I'd try that route. I guess I was just frustrated that the grays were not working. gailrolfe I have to agree with you on how hard it is to judge the BM colors. Every one I tried that looked not too purple on the swatch was so heavy that they were a bust too. I went back to the BM store to get the revere pewter even though it was still looking a tad too greenish it seemed the best of the lot. Once there I also looked at the rockport gray (still too green in my space) & then decided to take one more gander through and asked to see the Silver Fox that laxsupermom suggested in the photo above. Thank You! I like it! It has a lot of taupe in the gray that will pick up on the brown in the cabinets and it goes well with both the floor & the granite. Interesting the formula mix is brown & green! Whew! The deed is now done! The cans are here for the painter and there is no going back! Thank you everyone for the suggestions. It really helps to have a paint name to check out. Silver Fox! What a pretty name for the paint. :)

For modern-looking iris:
LOYALIST - a bright reddish purple - very late
TITAN'S GLORY - large dark bluish purple - striking
BLUEBERRY BLISS - gorgeous dark blue, I don't grow it, but it sure looks nice
HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS - very dark purple and ruffly - extremely hardy and vigorous for me
HAND PAINTED - purple and blue blend - I LOVE it and it reblooms
Or, if you like the older looking ones there are two very very hardy oldies that are attractive:
I. Germanica (the old dark blue bitone garden variety - comes out in early spring)
ALCAZAR: bitone with more purple in it - its extremely tough.

I think NAVY BLUES is gorgeous and it does really well for me. It looks great with WITCHES SABBATH (very dark with gold beard) and GRAPE EXPECTATIONS (wine with a blue violet flash).

Gypsy Romance is a very striking mulberry/purple iris. Blueberry Bliss has increased nicely for me this year, only its second year, Dashing is a very bright blue that made a very nice clump this year. They all would look great against the white of your house.
