Farrow & Ball Parma Grey.

How do you purchase Farrow & Ball if there are no showrooms nearby? Will they ship it to you? (sorry to hijack)

Try Benjamin Moore Silver Fox or Abalone (the lighter shade) We used both of these in our house and I LOVE them. Colors read dark in our house so I painted most of the main floor with the Abelone... It's my favorite color ever!

They make little sample cans. I HIGHLY recommend these, as I, for some reason, find F&B colors harder to read from a chip, even a big chip, than other lines.

If you balk at the price, find a curious friend or two, split the price and indulge your curiosity -- together!

It costs, I think $15 per order, big or small (may have gone up). Takes the same amount of time as calling the paint store, having them order, driving up, etc. like a week. But I don't order 12 gallons at a time, I have a small house, so you might want to call and get full details to see if it's worth it for you.

It's a little frustrating, I have to say, when your painter says "I'm out of paint" ans you say "OK, I'll have more in a week or 2." That's the only downside.

But look on their Web site for local stockists. I found a couple of driveable ones, within an hour of my house, so I can choose delivery or driving.

Then, I love Benjamin Moore too!

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I just got home from yet another trip (OK, it's only 5 min)to the BM store. I'll be going back there this afternoon so will check out the Silver Fox & Abalone. We don't have F&B close by, but I will be going to the next larger centre on Monday and will check it out there. I didn't realize the P&B is Canadian only. Fortunately I am in Canada, so I just need to find the closest outlet.

I picked up BM - Shadow Gray, and Pigeon Gray.
I also found a sample at Canadian Tire in the CIL line - Cosmos. Little more purple in it.

The quest continues...

How about BM Wet Concrete?

Hope she doesn't mind me posting the pic. The purple in Silver Fox is really subtle and only comes through in certain light. BM Wet Concrete is another good one.

Thank you everyone for the additional suggestions. After all the looking and way too many $$ spent on those little BM sample pots again today I have finally decided to ditch the gray as I just can't get the right tone to pull it all together.

I'm going back to my original plan to find a medium dark that will allow the granite as a whole to POP. I'm thinking Rocky Road. It seems like a nice warm brown and it does go well with both the cabs & floor. I can always change it out later if I feel the need. I only have 2 1/2 short walls that will even show the paint & it certainly will make finding a backsplash easier.

I feel more relaxed already.

katienic, I know it doesn't look like it, at least on my pc monitor, but when we tried BM's Driftwood and the Sandlot Gray from Benjamin Moore, they read very much purple-y gray. In fact, we couldn't use them because it was too much purple in our light. Also, just fyi, for some reason we had much more difficulty judging BM colors accurately from their sample books than we had with Dunn-Edwards.

Also, since so many of the colors we wanted to try at BM did not come in the little sample pots, we kept having to pay $12-14 for a quart...at Dunn-Edwards, they sold us the quarts using either a Triple A or a Friends & Family discount (their own) for $9. With the number of pots we had to try, the difference began to add up...but the good news is, it was worth it in the end! Good luck.

Well, today was crunch day and I absolutely had to make a decision & pick up the paint.

The Browns just didn't cut it. I don't know why I even thought I'd try that route. I guess I was just frustrated that the grays were not working. gailrolfe I have to agree with you on how hard it is to judge the BM colors. Every one I tried that looked not too purple on the swatch was so heavy that they were a bust too.

I went back to the BM store to get the revere pewter even though it was still looking a tad too greenish it seemed the best of the lot. Once there I also looked at the rockport gray (still too green in my space) & then decided to take one more gander through and asked to see the Silver Fox that laxsupermom suggested in the photo above. Thank You! I like it! It has a lot of taupe in the gray that will pick up on the brown in the cabinets and it goes well with both the floor & the granite. Interesting the formula mix is brown & green!

Whew! The deed is now done! The cans are here for the painter and there is no going back!
