    I must really like that color, too, because I only made it through my Hanson album to find these:

    {{gwi:667886}}

    {{gwi:667887}}

    I have a lot that I think of as more of a dark rose or cerise, but I'll see if I can find more in the purple range.

    Very nice color on Georgette Belden. Chris Lounge Lizard looks like it is made of velvet, very nice.

    Mareas, I like EM. Nice color!

    Chris, Night Air is a honey! I like that one!

    Remy, looks like a keeper to me too!!

    mareas, your photo of Sea of Love reminded me of another Kaskel you might like:

    {{gwi:667900}}

    I've had Sea of Love for two summers without any blooms. I bought it at the same time as Petticoat Frills and Orion Sky (both Kaskels), and Petticoat Frills has performed the best by far. I think it's time to move Sea of Love!

    I do love the color on Georgette Belden. How does that one do for you?

  • 16 years ago

    yep, orion sky and night beacon went right on the wishlist.

    Georgette Belden gave me big bouquets like this for more than 2 months last summer - i cant wait to see her established in the ground!

    Hi Dot,
    I've been pondering about "The Band Played On". Is it as pretty as your picture? Is it pod or pollen fertile? Does is have good plant habits?

    Thanks for your info ahead of time.

    A few of my favorites:

    Seedling:

    Cimarron Rose:

    {{gwi:667906}}

  • 16 years ago

    I couldn't get it to set any pods this spring, but we had rain day after day after day. I have seen seed sales of it so it must be fertile. It is very pretty and blooms a long time. Plant habits are average.

    Dot & Ellie, my two picks are 'Robes for the Queen' and 'Seagulls Heaven' - both your gorgeous photos show them in that particular color range that makes me stop and gape
    in fascination...
    Beautiful 'Nivia Guest' photo! Much darker than other photos I've seen of it. I love that look and have several that are close, like 'Stately Buddha' & 'Spartacus Adorned'.
    Photobucket is down right now or I'd include photos...

    mlwgardener, your deep colored seedling is scrumptious. Does it have any relation to 'Night Rapture'?
    And that photo of 'Cimarron Rose' is wonderful!! I've tucked it away to study (with your name on it) thanks! *grin*

    Chris, yes, DO move your 'Sea of Love' as it performed just beautifully for me last Summer. It waves its 'Camaroons' colors around like bright, show quality flags - yum!
    My clump photo of Georgette was taken in 100 degree full sun & i need a new camera. My eye can't differentiate the dark eye halos my camera does on reds & purples.
    I did some crosses with Georgette x 'Bela Lugosi' & a couple other Hansons, as well as 'Collector's Choice', last Summer - will be a LONG wait to see those colors.

    After seeing that photo of Cimarron Rose, I now have another variety to add to my wish list !!!

  • 16 years ago

    Cimarron Rose did a great job of blooming for me especially since it was the first year in my garden. Anyone that wants to use the picture, feel free.

    The seedling was given to me as an unknown seed by a wonderful gentleman 2 years ago on the LA. He used Evening Enchantment alot in his crosses, so I'd guess that it is one of EE seedlings. blessings Mona

    'Night Beacon' was one of my first daylilies, and it's still a favorite in my garden.

    {{gwi:667910}}
    'Wayside King Royale,' which is a little more purple than this photo shows. It has a really velvety texture.

    {{gwi:667912}}
    This was sent to me from Marietta last year as 'Cousin Charles,' but it's darker than the photos I've seen of it. I don't know if that's my soil/climate, or if this really isn't CC. Still, it's a nice dark flower that bloomed well, late.

    {{gwi:667913}}
    'Black Friar,' a real oldie (1951).

    Yall would just crack up if you could have heard all the oohing and aahing here as i just perused those INCREDIBLE photos... I'm drooling.
    I think I need to buy another 2 dozen daylilies now.
    Here is Nosferatu, since none of you posted him yet - I call him "King" & MEAN it during my daily pollen thefts...

    Great topic !!!

    I've never met a purple I didn't like ;~)

    Here's a pic of my favorite purple at the moment, a seedling of mine that is being evaluated for introduction:

    {{gwi:667972}}

    Some of my favorite registered purples are:

    MIDNIGHT IN MARRAKESH

    {{gwi:667973}}

    and just like Dot's fabulous pic above, MOONLIGHT SAIL

    {{gwi:667974}}

    Sorry about the large photo size....It was hard enough to get the pictures in the message. I'm not sure how to make them smaller.

    Leslie, What a FABULOUS picture of Moonlight Sail. I wish it had been more violet for me, maybe this year. It did bloom late though when it was very hot.
    I just ordered two from the Stamiles that you should look at. They are coming next week I am so excited.

    Please post pics this summer!!

    Well I like many colors but noticed last year that I didn't have many darker ones so I decided to get some more. You could probably get a single fan on the LA a bit cheaper, I like ordering directly from them because they always send at least double fans. I have a couple of times gotten a single fan but it was huge and split soon when it bloomed. You really should get Special Candy it was the fastest increasing lily that I got last year. 3 fans turned into 12

    Dot

  • 16 years ago

    OK that does it. I think I'm gonna order MOONLIGHT SAIL, all thanks to Leslie. I'd no idea it'd look so good up north. But Leslie....help me out, will you....get those new Stamiles and trial them for me, 'K? :)

    I've ordered a few Stamiles, but it's basically a toe-in-the-water kind of thing. Last year, I got PRECIOUS CANDY and LAST SNOWFLAKE; this year, I ordered VERDANT SPRING. But my experience with their plants up here is quite limited.

    Anyway, back to red-purples....I don't post pictures on this web site, but I've got a few I like. I recommend BELA LUGOSI very highly; same with a similar-looking daylily, RASPBERRY SUEDE, a Blaney intro.

  • 16 years ago

    Hi Dot - I ordered MOONLIGHT SAIL from Pat as well. I prefer to order mainly from the hybridizers...but if I want an older one I go to my favorite resellers. Thanks very much for the tip on SPECIAL CANDY...I've heard great things from others about it as well.

    Hehehe Lynxe!! Sure I'd love to trial all the new Stamile's for you :~) I haven't ordered many Stamile's lately because my collection was becoming mostly Stamile's and I needed to diversify. I can tell you that WREN'S SONG, LESLIE RENEE, FLAMINGO PARADE, and TRANQUIL WATERS all did well up here. CORONAL LIGHT was lost in a real bad winter and it is the ONLY Stamile I'd ever lost here. I've thought about giving CL another shot as it was probably something I did wrong.

    Let's see if I can did up some more pictures:

    Jan, it grew like mad the first year, but no blooms. Plenty of blooms last year. 34" x 6.25". It has a wired gold edge that's hard to capture in a pic.
