Dawn Redwood Damage--Heat Related??

User

What on earth could have damaged an otherwise very healthy Dawn Redwood. I just noticed today that while the newly emerging lower leaves are fine, those from the mid top on up look like someone took a blow torch to them--all dried and shriveled up. We have not had a typical April so far here in my area. When the leaves were first emerging, highs were in the upper 80 into the low 90's under sunny, windy, dry considerations. Soil moisture should still be high due to last month's foot of rain. Temps are more normal now but very sunny, low humidity prevails. Was this weather damage or something else? I have seven other DR's in containers in a different exposure and these look fine. Will my damaged DR recuperate for the season eventually?--Thanks in advance.
