First 24-hours were h-e double hockeysticks. Felt like I'd been beaten by thugs. Throat was like a mild case of strep, and of course fever and chills. No one will diagnose, of course, but I can guess it is/was a mild case of H1N1. They say those born before 1957 have seen this before, so will have milder versions. Yea - not!! I haven't had the flu in many years, I am sure because I get my shots religiously. Someone dropped the ball on this, I would say. Just in Ontario, several healthy kids have died.

I'd like to outside today, getting my leaves under control, but will baby myself another day, sipping my green tea.

I was going to drop this into my Trivia answer, but didn't want to Hijack TM's wonderful Trivia.

Glad you're feeling better Nancy, H1N1 is hitting hard here too. Please everyone, take every precaution you can, this thing is killing people.
Our grocery store has now put outside their entrance door a dispenser of wipes asking everybody to wipe down the handles on carts and baskets before using them. I carry with me a little bottle of hand sanitizer and use it often, especially after handling money.
Our flu shot clinic was cancelled and put off until later this month, DH and I are just going to get our regular flu shot hoping because of our age we are somewhat protected from the H1N1.

A 13 year old boy died from the H1N1 almost over night from the time he first showed symptoms of not feeling well, my sympathies to his family.
This is a time to be extra careful, stay away from crowds, get in the habit of wiping down handles, door nobs, anything you might grab hold of, as as much as you try not to you DO touch your face without thinking and, if you do think you have the flu STAY HOME.

Nancy, glad you are on the recovery side of this! I am sorry to hear it hit you the way it did. I heard we should have it easier, too. Oh well.

I am due for the regular shot at school on Tuesday, but no word on when the H1N1 will be available. I go to the doctor for regular check up on Friday, so maybe I can get one then-if I don't catch something in the waiting room!

I hear you! Nasty tasting grocery tomatoes over here too. I bought one Roma that was red on the outside and hard and green on the inside. Ewww. The Campari and grape ones are pretty good. In fact, the grape ones I just got are very sweet. I saved seeds last year from beefsteak, roma, and Campari grocery toms. They had a good rate of germination. Interestingly enough, they germinated (WITH the gel coating them even) twice as fast as the commercial seed I bought. Plants were very vigorous too, although they had more trouble with diseases later on. The romas and beefsteak tasted just as bad as buying from the store, lol. Only the Campari were good. Every year I get seedlings from my grocery grape tomatoes. Taste is great. The first year the plants were sickly, but the ones that come up now are very healthy. CMK

Did you used to talk to your dad about your baseball games? My husband played basketball with his dad until he got too sick to play anymore, but they loved talking about the games. He died of cancer. What was your dad sick with? If I ask you something and you don't feel that you are up to talking about, that is ok. Did you have anyone at the time you lost him that you could talk to? I hope you can always hold that special moment in your heart that you had with him at Disney. That is something only the 2 of you shared. When you are ready, if you can, try to go back in time and think of the things you talked about I bet you will remember more things that just the 2 of you shared that will make you smile. Your relationship with cocoa sounds like mine with buster. I was maybe a year or 2 older than you when he died. I felt about his little dog house like you do about cocoa's dog bed. Every time I saw it and he wasn't there it made me cry. The only way I could handle it was to put the dog house in the barn so I couldn't see it all the time, but could go out there and "visit" when the pain wasn't so raw. It took time to get over the loss of him. I still think about him and the silly things he did and will always miss him, but now it is with fond memories. You will get to that place in your mind with cocoa one day. It will take some time to get through the pain, but little by little you will. I believe dogs are very smart little creatures. They know things and pick up things that we humans sometimes miss. My gut says that cocoa knew his time to go was near and when he looked into your eyes it was with love for you.

lkremodel, which style and finish did you mean? I went to Lockhouse but didn't see anything different. I went to 3 Emtek dealers today. I saw your Rectangular Full Length one. Did you know how massive that thing is? It's really big and heavy. Make sure you see one in person first. I'm considering the smaller rectangular one, the rectangular monolithic. But it's so plain! Plus it has a curvy handle, and my door is all straight lines. I saw the Arts & Crafts one, the one I wanted, but the ORB finish is just not going to go with my black-leaded glass. It's way too reddish, and the hammered texture in the middle really shows the brassy color. About the texture: depending on the method of casting, some have more texture than others. So, the sandcast bronze ones have kind of a rustic look, not totally smooth. The Wrought steel have the roughest finish, like pebbly, but on a small scale. Those are the ones that come only in black, rust and satin steel. The cast brass ones are all smooth. I'm really striking out here on Emtek. I will have to look further to find an Arts & Crafts one in black, or get the Wilshire in Pewter. It's not black, but it's at least a little darker. Sigh.

Thanks to all of you!! It must of worked! My Dad came home today and he's feeling pretty good! He had a mild reaction to chemo in the begining (low grade fever,rash) and his kidneys were showing signs of stress,so the doctor adjusted his treatment.Now he's doing good. My husband and I got a lesson last night on how to flush his picc line,its kinda scary I've never done anything like this before! I was scared when I had to check his blood sugar! But now its easy!! Nancy, glad to hear you are better. It is beginning to sound scary down here too. We don't get the flu shots but aren't out in crowds much. I do worry about DH walking through the doctor's waiting room when he goes to rehab which is in the back of the building.

Glad you are better Nancy. I keep hearing on the news that it is worse but can't say that I know anyone who has had it . We aren't getting any H1N1 here at our house as we are too old and there is a shortage of vaccine anyway . DH gets the regular shot. I don't get out much so don't get the shot. U have had the flu in 1991...lasted 2 weeks and I thought I was going to die. Got it again in 2002 and got Tamiflu right away and was well in 24 hrs. So it is a wonderful thing. Make sure to get it right way though or it won't work. Soon as you have the first fever. c

Thanks Trailrunner. I need a new family DR. Again!!! I had a great Dr, but she moved to Atlanta 15 years ago - I still haven't forgiven her. My new (slightly) Dr. is getting more into babies, and does not seem to favour the problems of aging, and probably wouldn't give me Tamiflu. I hate her!!!! Oh, sorry, I'll be quiet now~~~
