Transplant Bald Cypress

feenix

I got a cypress seedling 2 years ago at the ag center and put them in 3 gallon nursery pots until I could place them. One of them got put behind some gingers winter a year ago so I lost track of it (oops). We had a pretty bad freeze this year and when I trimmed the dead off the gingers, I found the tree... in its pot... with a tap root that escaped the pot and went about 18" further. I dug it up today (it would not have made it behind the gingers, right next to the fence) long term anyway. So, I have this 4' cypress that now is starting to get its little leaves, with a 18" tap root and still have no place to put it.

Should I A) offer it to someone who could dig a big enough hole to allow the tap root to stay straight, B) put it in a 5 gallon pot that would require its tap root to be twisted until I can find a suitable new home for it, or C) give it up for dead (my least favorite option)?
