2nd request; Help w/Elsa & Wisley please

Hi All-

I just bought Wisley and Elsa Spath at Stew Leonard's because I had to replace a shrub that didn't make it thru winter so they said to pick out anything for $30.00. Each was $16.99 but I love clems so I chose these. They aren't very healthy looking with very tiny, very few buds the size of my pinkie nail. Should I prune them down to nothing? Should I just bury them deeply? Please advise. I do have a beautiful New Dawn climber that has a new Polish Spirit on one side. Would either of these work on the other side? Do they get large? What I really was looking for was an Etoile Violette but never saw one in our neck of the woods. How would these 2 look together? Or maybe growing up an Andromeda or lilac. Which could tolerate a shadier location? How vigorous are they? I hope to treat them both as a group 3. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for any advice as I know you clem lovers always come to the rescue of garden novices such as I.
