nursing a dying/dead Betty Corning?

Hi,

I got a Betty Corning, good roots, 2 stems with 2 leaves on each stem, planted it (2 weeks ago) and the leaves promptly (within 3 days) shrivelled up and died. Cut it back, the stem was green (now it's brown). I planted a John Huxtable at the same time about 15-18 inches farther down the same fence & it's doing fine, has put out new growth etc.

Any thoughts about nursing BC back to health? Do you think there's hope? What should I do?

Many thanks,

Alice
