dwarf washington navel orange

I have a dwarf washington navel orange that blooms good every year but drops its blooms or fruit . Does it need another orange to cross polinate with? It is in a pot in my greenhouse. I put it outside every summer. Linda

lindakay, some fruit drop is normal,but if fruit or bloom drop is excessive...correct watering is often the solution. Extremely hot dry,windy weather will trigger fruit drop also. Citrus are self pollinating,even indoors. But if you'd like to pollinate your tree you can do so with a cotton swab or soft brush.***Suzanne

so having moved up from California we needed an orange tree so we bought an orange navel and put it in a pot that we can wheel into the house for the winter. I planted in Miracle gro potting soil then discovered that it may not be good for the tree. At the bottom quarter of the pot I put rocks so that the water drains well.

Can I ammend the soil by adding some sand?? or should I pull the tree out and start all over again before it dies??

help will be apreciated.

WoW! I'm really bad at this... I'll just post the links. The first pic in the gallery is the branch in question. It is growing a lot faster than the rest of the branches and the leaves are much larger. The second picture is of the trunk and the low branch is the one in question. Thank goodness it is! These trees are expensive and we need you experts to tell us what we are doing wrong haha! I live in Indiana and the experts here only know about local trees, like apple and cherry. I have come to appreciate this forum so much and am thankful everyone has helped me to get my trees back on track. There is a lot of misinformation online about what to. do, so it's extremely nice that more experienced growers take the time to help us newbies out. Thanks everyone!

I have a Washington navel tree and had around 5-6 fruits this year. It's a young tree. Those were the most delicious navels I have had in quite a while. If I find another Washington at my local Lowes or Home Depot, it's coming home with me.

some twigs dying is normal in Washington Navel. Considering the amount of work you did with the roots, really the tree looks to have very little shock. I would have expected more set back after that sort of transplanting. As to the flowers, it is also normal for there to be a big blossoms drop. Also normal is for there to be only a very small percentage of blossoms that make a fruit. From what I see, just keep watering daily and let is settle into it's new home. Light pruning of the brown twigs would be good, bot don't cut into the green. Just remove the dead wood. It would be nice if those lovely scented blossoms lasted longer wouldn't it?
