You may have already have an answer. but in case you don't let me chime in. First, where in texas do you live? I'm in SA and have found many types of oranges including "washington" in many nurseries. You may need to travel to Houston or look on the web. One place you can place an order online is www.acornsprings.com, They have the "everhard" washington navel which will do well in your zone. LOL.

By the way, Does anybody know what type of bug tends to make holes like the one in the last picture? Maybe 8 or so leaves were damaged in a manner similar to that one. Not all of the bites start at the very edge but most of them are on that section of the leaf and have a similar zig-zag pattern. Random bugs seen around the property but not specifically on the leaves include earwigs, katydids, mealybugs, aphids, whiteflies, leafrollers, thrips,mites, cabbageworms, leafhoppers, etc. Thanks again folks and happy growing! Added follow up. I believe the maIn culprit was found today. An earwing slightly smaller than an inch long and pretty hefty in girth was spotted hanging out on a leaf towards the backside of the tree. Is it possible one earwig would munch through a decent amount of leaves in one week? First guess, you are over feeding it; but there is SOOOO much unknown... where do you live, how old is the tree, is it in ground or container, can you post a picture, what kind of fertilization program are you using, what kind of rootstock is the tree growing on... LITTLE things like that.

Well, kind of depends on what you want - juice or eating out of hand. The Meyer is an outstanding lemon. I'm a big fan like John. I use the Meyer for cooking, all my lemonade, and for my Limoncello. But, I couldn't be without a Valencia orange, as that makes the best orange juice. I love my Cara Cara as I think it's the best eating out of hand navel orange. Navel oranges will produce juice, but navel oranges contain a much higher chemical that causes the juice to become bitter if refrigerated, so traditionally navel oranges, like the Cara Cara, are for eating out of hand, whereas the Valencia is for both eating out of hand and juicing. So, decide what your grandmother would prefer, and that's your choice :-) Then, just get the other one for yourself, and you can swap fruits! Patty S.
