Soil solarization around tree and shrubs OK?

I am going to try soil solarization this summer on a patch of Bermuda grass. (It's where you put plastic down on the grass and leave it in place for a couple of months to cook the weeds and seeds). I have a crape myrtle, a small sugar bush, and a small mountain mahogany bush planted in this grass area.

Does anyone know, as long as I keep the plastic away from the plant's dripline, if soil solarization could harm these plants?
