Tomato Tasting and Sizzlin' Salsa Contest on July 22

The Fullerton Arboretum will be hosting a red-hot Tomato Tasting and Sizzlin Summer Salsa Contest on Saturday, July 22, 2006. The contest will be held on the pavilion of the new Museum complex on the grounds of the Fullerton Arboretum.

The contest runs between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge. Come prepared to get "fired up"! Bring your home-grown tomatoes in bags, clearly labeled, to the tomato tasting tables. There, they will be cut up in bite-size morsels for all to sample, savor and select their favorites. At noon, ballots will be tallied and the PeopleÂs Choice for the top 3 tomatoes of 2006 will be declared.

Salsa must be made with home-grown tomatoes and peppers and then the skyÂs the limit! Please provide 3 two-ounce containers of salsa with lids for the salsa judges and 4 cups (1 quart) for guests to taste. Three categories will be selected; Wimpy or Mild and Mannerly (very mild); Now YouÂre TalkinÂ! (medium to medium hot); and Hot Cha Cha !!! (get the fire extinguisher). Bring salsa to the check-in table no later than 12:00 p.m.

This Arboretum event is enjoyable and designed for the entire family. The Arboretum opens daily at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 4:45 p.m. every day of the year except for selected holidays and special events. Parking and admission are free.
