For me personally, Sat. AM would work better. I'll try to make it either way. My grandson and I go to Raleigh each year and it would be nice to also have something closer.

It looks like the 1st annual carolina tomato fest will be sat 22jul at 6:00pm. most of the response was to have it on the weekend so it wouldn't interfere with work. Rodger

23 days to the first annual Carolina Tomato fest. This event is not to delete the ever growing Tomatopalooza but for those not able to attend and for the South Carolina folks who wanted something closer to home and the others who just want a double fix of tomatoes. The event will be at the Little Mountain reunion park on the 22 of July at 4:00pm till 6:00pm. Little Mountain is located 1 mile off I-26 at exit 85. Take a right after exiting off either east or west and go to the stop sign. Take a right and go past the exxon station ( 100yds) and take the first left and the park is one block down on the right. We will be under the covered pavilion. Bring your tomatoes Salsa, recipes, seeds etc. I will provide everything else including Some heirloom melons if they hold out. I picked the first watermelons and cantelope yesterday. So I can accurately estimate please send me an e-mail if planning on coming or for more information. Rodger

South Caroina tomato tasting is next saturday. I picked 6 bushels of tomatoes today for the market tommorrow. Should have had the tasting tommorrow. This drought is taking a toll on the garden. But I should have a good representation of tomatoes for next week. Several people have confirmed coming. There is still plenty of room so pack up the tomatoes and head to Little Mountain Saturday 22 July from 4:00pm till 6:00pm. Rodger

Congratulations and thank you to Rodger! We had a great time thanks to you and your gracious wife. I was impressed with the variety and volume of tomatoes. I am looking forward to next year. When the word gets out, I am sure that attendence will increase dramatically.

Okay, I think I have figured it out. Here is some pictures.There is two folders of pictures so be sure to look at both. The pictures are of 25 of the 34 Tomatoes that I brought and some Pictures of some of the attendees that my Wife took. Things got so hectic and happened so quick that I didn't complete taking all of my tomato pictures or of the tables layed out and of the individual guest. There is always next year. I want to say thankyou to everyone who attended. I have also posted on the Tomato forum so also go there also to read more comments. Rodger

Roger, what do you do to combat disease in your tomato plants?

Plant a lot of tomatoes! Seriosly I have problems same as everyone else. I lost around twenty plants to spotted wilt virus, I had some early blight but no loses and some septoria on a few plants. In general I plant 5ft between plants except this year I have two rows that I planted 3ft apart they have grown into each other and no major problems yet except trying to pick.I keep the bottom couple of feet clean of leaves and suckers I use drip irrigation and mulch heavily. No fertilizers no sprays I haven't the time to pamper. For fertilizer I only use clover planted in the fall and tilled under in the spring. Plants that become infected with spotted wilt virus or are otherwise not healthy are removed and destroyed.

Are the results of the tasting published on line? Which cultivars were tops for flavor?
