I wanted to thank so many gardeners...My gardens would be nothing without this gardening home (GW)... I truly appreciate getting to know all of you and sharing our plants...A big thanks to... Brenda, Karma, Lucy, Edna, Elizabeth, Carol, Karyn, Dweeb, April, Brandy, Ryan... I could have never started my garden without you all sharing! :)))) I mean it from the bottom of my heart...Here is Maya from Edna....Fantastic plant!

Juliet, what a great post! I have so many of the same experiences. This year is the first year that my procrastination self got into OGRs. (As an aside, I took an adult ed class once on 'time management' (hee, hee, hee). While I still have the same time management skill set, I did learn why. Perfectionism leads to Procrastination which leads to Paralysis. To those that this applies, saved you $20 ;-) Anyway, the 'GramHat' siren song of Jeri's finally got me to get off my kester and Vintage was my drug of choice since they're on my coast - and now three orders this year am not sorry, they've been awesome. Oh, yeah, and let's not forget the one from Ashdown. The scientist in me figured if I just plug in to their search engine strong scent and good rebloom, I'd have a good starting list. Then on top of the list I put the 'found' ones figuring they'd be the most resistant and drought tolerant. This was a great 'starting' point (I've so had a lot of stress this year. If you don't buy plants when you're under stress, raise your hand... ok, you there in the back, why not?). I also found that using this strategy gave me a list that pretty much corresponds with most of your near and dear. I did good! ;-) Now I've got a great 'stable' as my basis. I can't wait for next spring, but even more, I can't wait for the one after that!!! Thanks everybody!

well said Mona..we all have lives and sometimes they get in the way of our postings...it certainly doesn't mean that we don't care and there's hardly a day go's by that I don't think of you and the battle you're dealing with...I'm right there with you and together someday...we'll look back on this and do a big ole sigh...Motherhood sure is hard sometimes isn't it?

M, So great to hear your take on form following function. I think we share a practical streak. On the one hand, I'm not a preservationist, on the other I do want to be true to the spirit of the house. I'm not aiming to make it something its not, and I don't want to "over improve" either. I agree that its entirely possible to "design a modern functional home and have the original vintage design-spirit prevail". In fact, thats precisely the balance I'm striving to achieve. In my situation, honoring the vintage design spirit means keeping certain elements intact: --the cottage windows --the china cabinet --the built-ins in the living room flanking the fireplace I'm not as attached to keeping the kitchen and breakfast room spaces separate as my partner is. In the spirit of cooperation and domestic harmony ;-) I've solicited feedback on how we could fit everything in the footprint of the kitchen proper, and posters to this thread stepped up admirably (THANK YOU!!) Reading the comments here has allowed me to feel more comfortable with merging the kitchen and the breakfast room--that this might be the right place to "modernize". Considering the two spaces as one is beginning to feel…well…more practical to me. Your point about it being possible to botch both the form and the function strikes a cautionary note---Sheesh, that would be awful. Aiming to avoid this, on both counts! But I feel the same way about everyone that shared with me and when I am out there and see the plants...sometimes don't remember who it was from. Horrible thing is, that sometimes ALL came at the same time and all I could think about is getting the stuff planted lol

So you all know who I am talking about. :-)))

I couldn't even name all the people that have contributed to my garden and I've met so many great people through GW. I also like your fountain. I love the sound of running water, fountain, waterfall, whatever and Lucy that amaryllis is just beautiful.

I really want to thank everyone on the forum for the plants and advice. I've never found a friendlier, more giving group -- online or elsewhere.

Karyn yes I agree GW gardeners are the best in learning and sharing not only our plants but knowledge too...

You are most welcome. But, I feel like I came out on the better end of our trades.

Postmaster has to wait until after blooming is finished. Yours came from the last cuttings I will take before the mother plant finishes blooming. He knows he will be getting them at the end of the summer so he's not anxious.

BTW, he watches for my envelopes I drop in the inside box on the way to work. He pulls them and hand cancels!!!!

Eloise it is getting prettier by the day. It opened the 3rd flower and I COULD DIE because my battery died on me.

I think they LOVE being outside!!!

Lucy mine was not as pretty as yours... Thanks Eloise...I love water features in the gardens..They attract so much wildlife and the sounds are the bonus... We have hummers now....Frost tonight..Lol we just covered the gardens..:)
