It is looking like we will have the Christmas flush of the eons.I waited til end of October to give the fall pruning,plus kept on feeding.I knew you would all want to hear that.lol

Anyone that knocks knockouts should see them now.They thrive down here and have about 3'' blooms this time of year.

Pete - I love my Knockouts also. Even though we have had our first snows, my Knockouts still have leaves; unbelievable. All the other roses are bare. I grow roses are color and they are non-stop riots of hot pink and cerise here in Illinois; and no blackspot or mildew. Even the JBs shun them. I'm a fan. Glad you're getting your holiday flush; I'm getting snow and lots of cardinals and jaybirds in my birdfeeders. It's getting to 16 degrees here tonight. Time to throw another blanket on the bed.

My teas are going bonkers right now. I can't believe the beautiful blooms they're pumping out. Even my brand new Reines des Vilolettes has a bud! Marechal Niel is absolutely breathaking, and he's a brand new baby too. I am so glad I got this rose at the CFHRS sale in the fall. What a gem.

Brad, I'll keep my fingers crossed. What size are Jasmine seeds? Never seen them. You using a heating mat? I bought B. luxurian seed some time ago. Seeds look like ashes, lol. I tried once before, ended up tossing the soil. The second try, which was recently, I opened packets and dumped contents in a small pot. The seeds were in the fridge, but were taken out and left in a warm room, so they might not be fertile. Second times seeds were left. Don't know if it's too late to use a mat or if Begonia seeds will ever sprout. So, good luck with your Jasmine seeds. Are they placed in plastic for humidity? Toni

OMG Sandy, Just read this post and you talked about thrush. That is a nasty, nasty word in my book. I supposedly have asthma and am on the inhaler Advair. After too many, too many bouts with thrush I went cold turkey off of Advair. I got thrush back in February. It got so bad it went to my throat and tonsils. Even my gums were bleeding. I couldn't even drink tea I was in so much agony. I lost 5# because I couldn't eat. I still had thrush in May after a month of being on Diflucam to take it away. I could eat but it still hurt, and forget about taste. I lived on applesauce, jello and pudding. On Father's Day this year I thought I had a small stoke. It felt like someone had stabbed me in the left side of my head with a sharp pencil, then my whole left side went numb, even my tongue. The MRI showed I had a slight brain aneurysm that had healed itself. That was it. I decided the Lord gave me a second chance at life and I wasn't going to abuse it. I am now on a strict low-sodium diet. I have lost 30#. It seems like the pounds are just melting away. If it ain't natural it ain't going in my body. I gave up diet pop, and anything with splenda, neutrasweet or aspartame in it. I have been told I have had asthma and allergies my whole life, and I can't believe the difference. I haven't used an inhaler since February and don't have a problem breathing. I haven't had an asthma attack (thank God) and this is the first year I haven't sneezed my head off during allergy season. I am up to 1.60 miles on the manual treadmill and can bench press 50# on the Bowflex. I don't care what my allergist tells me, I refuse to put anymore steroids into my body. That's what caused the thrush in my mouth and throat, steroids in the Advair inhaler. I feel like I have been reborn. Jenny

Last year I used the awl tool on my swiss army knife. This worked well and reasonably quickly and is a short tool so I was unlikely to stab myself. I also tried a drill bit, which worked okay. However, both of these tools make holes that have sharp edges. This fall I bought myself a soldering iron to use for the remaining holes. The main reason? Because I raised Monarch butterflies this summer, and reared the caterpillars in my WSing salad boxes. Although I lined the bottom of the container with a napkin, I read that sharp edges in the container could harm the baby caterpillars, and sometimes those little buggers crawl around all over. Hopefully the soldering iron will create holes with smooth edges. It will probably be easier to use too.

It's 46F here now and it doesn't feel right at this time of the year. Lawns are bright green and half of my roses are still leafy. The old European roses have more sense. Luckily our weather can change quickly and we may get a white Christmas after all.

Its only going to be around 79 today.
After 30yrs in Montana ,I think that is about right.
The last Christmas There we had breakfast,then went for a ride right around sunrise.A beautiful clear crisp morning.
About a mile down the country road we saw an Eagle symbolically sitting on a fence post.Then a herd of about 30 elk,maybe 500 deer total,2 coyotes and a fox.
all the time with snow covered mountains 360 deg..
Since there was NO way we would ever be able to top that for a Northern Christmas,I'll take Florida with its silly snow scenes.
By the Bye,this was just a hi to the gang.Don't get around here much,anymore.
Enjoy the season where ever you might be.

Unlike Shakespeare, I do desire a rose in December. Yes, Pete, 79 sounds about right compared to here, I think it's 15 out. At least there's snow on the ground protecting the roses.

Great Pete. Just show up occasionally to gloat over your warm weather. I hope those folks on the Hot Topics Forum give you what you deserve. I get over there sometimes and I think they are buying guns as we speak.

It is fun being a pogoist-
Someone who sees the humor when the electorate of a Democratic,Republic constantly accuse the elected of sheer stupidity,greed,gross whatever,etc..
Since this is a never ending source of humor I am constantly grinning like a possum.
I invited them to come over and enjoy the beauty of life but thats in the eyes of the beholder,I guess.
Me-I like to stop and smell the roses ,not sniff around the stench-so I will be back and you can kick me around,again.

Pete-----I too am a big fan of KO-----At my age I love any rose that can take care of itself-----

We have a dusting of snow and cold weather----I still love the changing seasons but warm weather sounds more inviting every year.

My nephew now lives in Montana and he loves it.

I hope you post some pictures of your Christmas flush--
( of course I do mean the roses)---LOL

I havent't had time to visit Hot topics but I've heard they really get after each other---maybe I will check it out !!!

Pete, I am always glad to hear about your Christmas blooms. Mine are either rotting or blown away (we had a big storm here in the NW). I'm with Flo--Show us some pix. I don't mind your gloating if I can share! Have a great holiday down there in the land of sun.

We don't really believe Pete has a garden. He just comes here to be contrary and see who will explode at his insensitive remarks. Be sure to bring a camera on your trip to record the evidence.

Quite possible but have to see for myself. Some things are too good to be true. Often though, they are true.
The only way to see for sure is a personal visit.
Won't be too much blooming in mid February but there will be enough.

Pete, my 'Knockout' looks good right now too. And the blooms do get really large in this weather. Geez, that is one thorny rose though. Wicked thorns. I don't know what I will do with it when it gets large.
