Has anyone ordered from this company? They are in Denmark. They have some Pimpinellifoliaes that I need that are not available in the US or Canada. I will be ordering about 36 roses.
Make sure you get your Agricultural import licenses and have a place away from your regular rose beds to quarantine them for two years. Have the permits before the plants arrive in the US so your stock doesn't have to sit in customs and perhaps die.
I live very close to that huge rose nursery and get about 70 percent of my roses from that vendor. The plants are of excellent condition on multiflora rootstocks. But they are also a bit expensive - but I have always found the extra expense worth it. They pack the roses well and they are able to live in the box/plastic bags for about 2 weeks before they will get a little moldy. Just cut the moldy cane parts away -- if that should happen - it the roses are stored too long in a customs/heated offices. Plant pimpinellifolia roses with the bud union 3 inches below soil level to encourage the suckering these roses are so well known for. This way they really take off and become dense bushes fster ...
Very good advice from Karl. I live in Washington State which has a huge agricultural economy, so they are really uptight when it comes to bringing any plants in from foreign countries. On top of the quarrantine Karl mentioned you have to agree to have your new Roses inspected on a random basis and you pay the inspector $70 per hour round trip. In my case it's a three hour round trip so it got stupid real quick. Needless to say I found lots of other Roses to grow. Call first and find out for sure. Good luck and please post some pictures.
cupshaped_roses comment is very appropriate. Bud unions can and often will be problems with spinosissima roses. If you plant them with the bud union 3 inches below the soil level they will hopefully establish their own roots which will save the plant when and if the bud union fails. It's also the only way, along with division, to propagate new plants.
