Storm broke Sally Holmes so I'm rooting cuttings from the broken cane
Comments (1)I've done this and it worked with Moonlight. I'm doing it with Albertine now. Wind is a problem, even for regular bushes. Good luck Cori Ann....See MoreSally Holmes?
Comments (45)One of my favorite gardening design idea sites (gardenia.net) has a great photo of Sally Holmes with lots of grasses and purple companion plants. Photo from: https://www.gardenia.net/garden/A-Pretty-Late-Season-Border-Idea-with-Asters-Roses-and-Grasses Isn't that a great design? I'm trying to create a similar effect, but with a few substitutes to the plants in their design. I'm using verbena, purple fountain grass and lantana instead of what they have there. Asters could work here too... but I haven't added them yet. And of course I want Sally Holmes to be a tree instead of the little baby bush they have there. I may end up putting a couple Peace rose bushes in there too because they are currently orphans without a home and I can't figure out where to put them. I love Sally Holmes. As a tree, climbing over a structure, trained horizontally through a ranch style fence. It's fantastic and super easy here in CA....See MoreTractor supply has Sally Holmes, Angel Face, Oklahoma, Golden gates
Comments (5)LIlyfinch, Sexy Rexy is a beautiful rose. I was so impressed by it in the greenhouse at High Country Roses. Granted, I'm a bit of a sucker for that type of rose, but this one differs with that deeper rose center. You should get it. Dianela, thanks for the thoughts! I finally raked most of yard.... it just rains all the time. Now I'm on to transplanting some trees and bushes and taking down some trees, and do a general clean-up so that I can finish the bit of brick edging I didn't do last year and hopefully start on my paved path from my driveway. I started the steps years ago and needed help with machinery to finish, so I never did. I said to myself last Fall, "The heck with it! I'll hand dig it with my helper!", so that's what we intend to do. I'm sick of the pavers cluttering up my front yard. I figure if we can dry-stack a retaining wall, can do this project. I just want to finish my planning and see what I may need in my order with Burling and Chamblee and I can't do that until I see what goodies they may have around town! :-D...See MoreSo she is obviously NOT Sally Holmes
Comments (13)Thank you Carol. I’ll update once it is fully opened. Vapor I think I may be uncharacteristically unlucky for busy bags. 2 years ago I purchased 3 playboy at Lowes and they turned out to be some red hybrid teas.lol. I think I am done trying. Kristine I think it is too pale for peace. Also it is too vigorous. I have two Peace roses and they barely grow here and just defoliate constantly. This rose seems stronger in nature. We will see what I do with it. It happens to be in one of my very few spots with full sun at the lake so unless it can super impress me it may have to go....See More- 15 years ago
