#5 -- Tahitian Sunset (sent to me 3 years ago by mistake) Heavy bloom production, absolutely clean foliage, beautiful upright bush form. Didn't know I wanted this rose . . . very pleased that someone made an error.

#4 -- Mystic Beauty, the new Bourbon sport of SDLM. Like SDLM & her other sports, Mystic Beauty just seems to appreciate what my garden & I have to offer. Members of the SDLM tribe are my favorite OGRs -- by far.

#3 -- Secret's Out!, the (almost) solid white sport of Secret from Witherspoon (I've not checked their website, but I think it'll be available for wide distribution in '09). Same fab fragrance as Secret. Great for cutting. And it seems to perform well in a semi-shady location. First year plant for me. Hope I'm equally pleased after season 2.

For my top 2, I must thank my friends Helene and Jens. They know my garden at least as well as I do, & have never gifted me with a dud (the many duds have all been my own choices). Both of the following are finishing their second season here.

#2 -- Flashback, a beautiful rich pink/creamy white blend with tinges of green as the bud first begins to open. Really superior form at all stages. Lovely foliage that has fared exceptionally well in the heat/humidity that I have to deal with. Excellent as a cut flower.

#1 -- Chantelle. I don't think I've ever met a Kordes apricot that I wasn't impressed with (altho I've met some I've not been able to grow successfully). This one, Chantelle, is UNbelievable! Huge blooms, each one shaded with subtle variations of apricot; lovely form; the bush is very upright with better than average production, even in mid-summer when lots of others are in the doldrums. If I could change one thing, I'd amp-up the faint scent.

WOW its hard to pick 5 I have so many favorites, but this is my list for this week
#5 Kronprincesson Viktoria.. First year for me and I love it!
#4 Our Lady of Guadalupe... Another one I just planted this spring and it has been great, no disease and a great bloomer.
#3 Ebb Tide...I love this in spring and fall when the blooms are dark purple. This is a second year plant for me and it was amazing this spring, at one point it had 50 blooms on it.
#2 Pope John Paul II...love this rose, I planted 2 this spring, one was slow to start the other has a very quick rebloom. The fragrace is amazing!
#1 Janice Kellogg...I bought this one on clearance last year for 5.00. It looked pretty sad when I bought it but had read good things about it on here. I sprayed and fed it and within a month it was blooming. It is huge now with large magenta/purple blooms. Not much fragrace but it is a show stopper. I really like the shape and fullness of JK.

1. Ingrid Bergman--the prettiest, bloomingest red rose I have.
2. Marilyn Monroe--perfection always, laughs at heat.
3. Christopher Marlowe--love the color, the incessant blooming.
4. Chicago Peace--Wonderful huge blooms all season long.
5. Ebb Tide--So many blooms, so PURPLE.
So hard to pick favorites!

OMG Hoove, what fabulous bush shots. Can you please name some for us from your last pic. You certainly give your bushes space to do there own thing - they look wonderful. I tend to put mine close together, hoping they will hold each other up, but not a chance, I still have to stake like crazy.

Let's see. Hmmm. Usually whatever is blooming at the moment, but let me stand back and take the long view.

#3, #4, #5. I adore my new ones--Mrs. John Laing, Elina, and Peter Mayle--so much that I may order a couple more of them and extend that row. Big fat blooms on upright plants, only a couple spots of BS at most. Can't wait for them to get more maturity.

#2. Hmmm. This is a hard one. Either my good ol' standby Double Delight (such gorgeous coloring) or good ol' standby Eutin (so reliable, I wouldn't have a rose garden without her). Flip a coin.

#1. I've fallen in love with my Molineux. Actually, I have three planted fairly close together to form one larger bush. It has gone crazy with blooms this year, and with three together, it makes a much bigger statement. What a wonderful blend of yellow/cream with peachy-apricot hues at times, golden hues at other times. I liked Molineux very much when it was just one, but I'm crazy about it as 3-in-1.

Now I'm feeling bad about excluding a half dozen other stars in my garden. : (

bella'roma - smell, coloring, number of blooms and it came through last winter

the fairy - always blooming, die hard rose, even the bindweed that seems to have sprouted everywhere stood no chance against the fairy, but no smell :(

prairie breeze - always blooming, doesn't last well in a vase, but i put it in sunrise corner and it has an almost translucent quality to the blooms - it fits in very well there

JFK - it has changed my mind about white roses, i love the way it smells

the first four were easy to pick - it's harder to pick out a final favorite so many have qualities that i adore, but probably distant drums - i really like it's coloring and it has a good quantity of blooms

Hoov - Your Brass Band puts shame to all the ones in the Tulsa Rose Garden. You do a good job. And Beth your Tropical Amazone has really caught my eye. Same color combo as Tuscan Sun. How do the blooms hold up?
My top 5 right now in no particular order:
*Chattooga - a rather new mini introduction and new to me this year. Probably one of the best new minis I've tried in ages. Nice bush shape and always in bloom. Won court at the fall show.
*Falling in Love - The sweet fragrance is an added bonus on this beautiful pink HT. Lasts forever in a vase
*Lady Mitchell - This is a wonderful large flowered rose that was just made for a container. Healthy, ever blooming, takes the heat. Every year I thank God I tried this rose.
*Tiffany - I'm cutting way back on my roses, but this oldie but goldie has survived all my cuts.
*This is new to me this year. Probably lots of you have seen them around. It is covered in blooms right now and just so precious you want to eat it with a spoon. A double flowered Begonia:

Ok then! I just this minute got back from buying another Julia Child and a Pinkie climber (Renae was my first choice, but specimens were not nice). Now I need Brass Band. Fortunately, I do have one more spot...

Oh... I am SO moving to California...no matter what I do, mine will never look that beautiful!

Numbers 5 all the way to 1: William Shakespeare 2000. This is my second year with him and in a zone where roses stay very small, he is the largest one I have ever grown - ever! On top of that, his blooms smell heavenly. BUT, the number 1 reason he's number 1 through 5, is the fact that he's been in bloom ALL SUMMER! I don't mean flushing repeatedly, I mean he's had multiple blooms at all times over at least a solid two month period, possibly more, since I didn't make a note of when he started. I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER, experienced anything remotely like this in any rose I've grown. Every day when I go out to look at my garden, I am bowled over by this rose. He eclipses any of the other roses I have. His only downside is that japanese beetles love him as much as I do. What an incredible rose!

what color is WS2000 exactly? red, purple, purplish red, deep fuschia pink? I've looked at HMF and I just can't quite figure it out especially with that slight variation in shade it's hard for a camera to do it justice.

All of the above, depending on how hot it is. The deep fushcia pink happens more in really hot weather, but I like best the red/purple/purplish red during somewhat cooler weather. The purplish tones emerge as the bloom ages.

Wonderful rose. I recommend it heartily.

#1 Polanoise - big 4" blooms that last 10 days on bush and in vase; my very favorite Buck.
#2 Coffee Country - new this year; very intriging brown tones with mauve edges; very striking now that it is cooler
#3 Cabana - love the huge striped yellow/white/pink blooms and it is a bloom macine
#4 Camille Pisarro - striking yellow and pink striped blooms. No two blossom-patterns are ever the same.
#5 Mountain Music - another Buck; blossoms are luminous pink blends of orange and yellow and almost shell-shaped. Wouldn't be without it.

These lists will give us something to check out over the long,cold winter!

yes, my list of potential roses for next year is up to 313 - i just can't seem to narrow it down to a realistic level - it will definately give me something to do over winter! or at least attempt to do

My top 5:

#5-Just Joey. Love those huge blooms. Bloomed a lot more this season. Had 3 good flushes.
#4-New Day. This old yellow HT has the nicest flushes of big yellow blooms. It surprises me every year. It's fall flush was so big I made huge bouquets and took them to work.
#3-Dublin Bay. Finally covering one side of the arbor with continuous bright red blooms. A wonderful disease resistant climber with no scent.
#2-Veterans Honor. I love the giant red blooms that last forever in a vase and I also love the strong (to me) Cherry koolaid scent. I had 3 huge flushes this year.
#1-Double Delight. I can't resist the scent and beauty of this rose. It bloomed almost continuously. I was never without a blossom in my vase by the kitchen sink. It is by for my favorite rose. Does need spraying in the spring, but worth it!

Whose the fairest of them all? 'Snowbird' for Hybrid Teas. I was at Vintage Gardens this weekend, where I've been graced to be able to visit 4000+ different roses and I kept walking back to smell a deeply fragrant white rose named 'Snowbird' a rose I've long admired in a local no-spray public garden. Of all the white Hybrid Teas it is my favorite, along with 'Mme. Jules Bouche' and 'Mrs. Herbert Stevens. I love white roses above all others.
thats only 3, 'Dortmund' for a red rose, and 'Lemon Spice'for the most fragrant yellow H.T. of all time, (to my nose) and one of the most floriferous of that class.
I can't think of a new rose that has knocked my socks off. Except I was surprised and impressed at the beautiful foliaceous sepals on what was labeled as a blushing 'Knock-Out' rose at a local rose nursery.

#5-Cherry Parfait-took four years to establish, but when it finally did, OMG, this thing blooms crazily. I just wish it had a scent!!

#4-Autumn Splendor--Mini flora that has a huge well rounded bush that stays in control and constantly heavily blooms the most beautiful yellow/red flowers. Just wish they had scent!!

#3-Pope John Paul II--Whites don't usually turn me on but this beauty has it all!! Clean foliage, vigorous big bush, health and winter hardiness, big perfectly formed blooms with the most luscious citrus scent imaginable. Everyone needs this rose!!

#2-Lucille Ball--Hard to find hybrid tea, but for me was worth the search. Needs a couple of years to establish, but this year the bush has taken off and is producing huge apricot well formed flowers with a light fresh scent to them. I have blooms this fall that are 6 1/2" across and hold their wonderful form for days on end. I just can't imagine J&P dumping this rose..??!!

#1 Day Breaker-I have never made bones that this is always my favorite rose of all. Super vigorous well shaped bush with shiny green thick foliage that stays healthy for me even when I am late spraying them. The beautiful flowers are an everchanging mix of pink, apricot, yellow, and salmon colors depending on the time of year. This rose is constantly in bloom--no downtime between flushes for this rose. Has a lovely moderate scent that just caps it off. I have over 250 bushes and only a very few do I have more than one of, yet I have 5 Day Breakers with four of them in a mass planting that will take your breath away. Visitors to my garden make a bee-line to this planting every time.
