Rose disease research - reference urgently needed

I know that some of our members are very good at ferreting out research citations. I hope that one of you good people will help me.

I went to a talk about rose care. The speaker said that recent University of California research shows that stripped rose leaves and prunings which are infected with powdery mildew and blackspot can safely be left on the ground beneath the plants to decay, retuning nutrients to the soil. The research showed that disease dies very quickly on plant material that has been removed from the plant. This is contrary to what rose growers have long believed.

I am giving a talk about rose care soon, and I would like to cite this study -- if I can find it. So far I have not had much luck, but then, I'm not really sure where to look.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me so that I can be sure of my facts.
