Easy Elegance roses...can't find
Comments (10)Yes it is frustrating to get info about the EE roses from Bailey's. I'm a member of the ARS North Central District (MN, WI & the Dakotas). At some of our meetings, MN people have complained about Bailey's promoting their products to the gardener because they are strictly a wholesaler to garden centers & they just don't seem to want make any effort to deal with us, rather they just want to promo their products thru garden centers. So if you don't have a garden center that pushes Bailey's products in your area, you're going to find it hard to find many of the EE roses. Also about a year ago, I remember one of the other roses forums having a discussion about Baileys & Ping Lim, the EE hybidizer, parting ways so if this is true, the EE roses may be on there way out as a Bailey's product line....See MoreIf you were planning your first rose garden...
Comments (63)If you are looking at any roses, look for fragrance and disease resistance. I have Molineaux a golden yellow Austin rose that is fairly disease resistant and has a fragrance. Here is a short list of roses that have done well on LI, NY in the County Extension Demonstration garden. If you do decide to do any mail order-- try to get your order in to these companies by December/January at the latest. By the time April rolls around, many of the more popular roses have sold out already. Ordering early 'reserves your rose' and you can request when the company can send it to you-- if you have snow on the ground in April, maybe by the end of April might be better for you. Just put it in their notation area. Comments (25)Patty W thank you for sharing your lovely pictures. I am not the one to ask about blackspot because I am just learning. Though I wanted to mention that the soils in Iowa and Illinois are closely matched.... Ijust wanted to add that might be, but for any newbies like me in the rose world that all soil isn't quite the same. I grew up on a relatively small farm in Missouri and our soil on different parts of the farm was quite different. People talk about micro climates in different zones I would go as far as to suggest that soil has the many different aspects. I remember digging post holes with my father and in some places we had to dig with jobbers by hand because the tractor auger would even touch the hard clay, but 10 feet away at the next post hole it would be easier digging. We also grew crops and you could tell a difference in the ground as you looked across it by how well the plants were growing. As a newbie on learning about roses, I thought I would share some of my experiences. Schaute, I am not an expert by any means. So take this with a grain of salt and you might want to have your soil tested if you continue to have problems with plants. But for the problems that you are currently experiencing on your rose bush I think the above suggestions will help you to fix the immediate situation. Thank you...See Morewirosarian_z4b_WI
