My roses from Vintage arrived
Comments (46)Deron, they backorder. Or at least, that's what Vintage did for me. I was thrilled, as I didn't want a substitute. I listed no alternative roses on my order. They have told me my backordered 'Pretty Jessica' will ship later when it has built up more size. I received wonderful customer service from them. Sammy, for me here in Texas, it is kind of expensive to order from Vintage. But for roses I can't find at The Antique Rose Emporium, I will continue to go to Vintage & Roses Unlimited. Both places have sent me fantastic looking roses and give excellent customer service. I'm sure Ashdowns & some of the others are just as good, but I haven't tried them yet. Except I did get my Tea Rose book from the great people at Ashdowns. Randy...See MoreY'all have talked me into getting an order from Vintage
Comments (1)Sunsprite or Sunflare - I get them confused - got BS here in similar conditions to yours. I think I would avoid both regardless of what they say about disease resistance. If they're resistant, it ain't to BS. I just got Heirloom (a $5 bareroot) so I really shouldn't comment. I'll be surprised if it lasts the season the way canes are dying. I'm sure that has more to do with this plant than the rose. Can't say I was thrilled with the flowers or the scent either. They were not what I had experienced on the potted plant I gave my DIL. Very disappointed in this plant, but I guess I should have known better. Comments (7)Nastarana so happy to hear that. I wanted something that was a good climber as well as continual bloomer. I planted it up against an iron trellis that backs up to a fence. I had a red climber that didn't do too well and had a virus of some sort. Forget what it was called. I dug that up and put in some fertilizer a couple of weeks ago to prep the soil for my new Polka. I can't wait till its tall and full of blooms. I'll be able to see it all the way from the front of my house through to the back yard. I sit in the font of my house to study and can see straight to the yard. I'm going to enjoy these! Our elderly neighbor loves roses and she can see mine from her kitchen where she sits. I always clip roses and bring them to her. She and I have the same birthday so I go over with roses from my garden and a cake. She has way too much shade in her yard and just never had any luck with roses but I share mine with her any way I can....See MoreVintage order arrived!
Comments (8)Ingrid, we have Grandmother's Hats that have been pruned down almost like HTs, making stocky, compact shrubs, and we have never-pruned ones that grow into big, graceful semi-climbers. In my climate, it looks like you can do almost anything with it. Very obliging rose. FWIW, it is nothing like any other HP we've ever grown. We planted out some young ones, to form a hedge, where we don't want someone to inadvertently drive off a ledge and land in our bedroom. A week or so ago, some fool drove right over one of them. Next morning DH went out and propped it back up, and it never missed a beat. Mme Caroline Testout is a beauty. I lost mine. I need to get another. Jeri...See Moremelva
