Judith, I grew her during the summer. Remember, she's only a baby, so these growth habits may fill out once she matures. This is a tall rose. We're talking 7 ft or so. Not wide at all, but not stiff and gangly like a ht or grandiflora. More vase shaped and loose at the top. I'm kind of scared about what the future growth will bring, because it looks like this could have been grown as a climber - at least a leaning type climber. The habit is pretty enough that I am not thinking of pruning her down next spring - I'm going to treat her like the other Austins and let her get a strong structure of growth before pruniing for height- maybe that's not what I'm supposed to do with Austins, but that's what I like to do. The blooms are wonderful. Very fragrant, very full petaled like the Austins. The repeat was slow this year, but the blooms were worth the wait. Out of the new rose garden with 70 or so roses that were new to me this year, Caroline Hairston is one of 10 or so that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. Now that I've grown it I will never be without it. Another ARE introduction worth trying is Star of the Republic. Breathtaking apricot blooms. Same upright vase shaped growth. Blooms aren't as fragrant as Caroline Hairston and it actually repeats a little less, but this is another rose I wouldn't live without. Where is Melva? I thought to ask whether you felt that some women and some men can be best friends, but later in the thread, some spoke of having best friends of the other gender. My mother was ill from the time that I was about six and I had fairly good friendships with a couple of the spouses of our farm helpers, who helped with housework, but they were rather short term, though I recognized one over 20 years later (while we visited the psychiatric hospital, where Mom had been confined and our farm helper's daughter was then, after some hassles with drugs ... and where my ex- later worked as second, then head, of food service for nearly 25 years) ... and I was rather friendly after meeting her that time, for several years with her and her husband. While I don't think that Dad ever told me that he loved me, I knew that he did ... and if I remember correctly, brother said a while ago that he never did to him, either, that he could recall. Brother that took over the farm said that he and Dad worked together for years and never had more than rare and inconsequential disagreements. I can't think of the major family difficulties that mar many family celebrations. My brother is loved by most everyone who knows him, I think, as he doesn't get perturbed much, and is kindly to most everyone, often helping others when they have need ... built a ramp for wheelchair access to their village church. We had some problems with stepmother, who came into the family after I was away to university, as she could be nice at times, but turn mean in an instant. Her daughter didn't like her and picked a cousin as sort of a substitute mother. Step-sister and my brothers got along well, as she does with me, but I seldom see her. She has said on some occasions that Dad never treated her any different than he did the boys, which she appreciated (though he never adopted her - she had a living father for years). Our other brother died in an auto accident in his 40's, over 30 years ago, when his kids were in their teens. I use Moroccan Oil Cream for Curly Hair. I stick my head under the tap and wrap it in a towel. I do not comb it. After a bit I apply a couple of pumps of the Curly Cream and just scrunch it with my fingers. I am hair dryer/diffuser challenged and have very thick hair. This product is hard to find in Toronto - the Moroccan oil itself is much easier to locate. The Curly Cream sells fast. Not cheap and only sold in beauty salons and certain beauty supply stores (the type you have in the U.S.) - but I expect price is better in U.S.. If you find it in a drug store it will most likely be fake. The colour is very pale apricot - that saved me once - the cream was white - a knock-off being sold by a hair dresser. My natural auburn hair turned iron grey in my mid 20s and with my pale but yellow-based complexion I do not suit grey - or any other colour (I tried on wigs). So I have single-processed my hair a medium auburn ever since (now 61) - avoiding mahogany or purplish shades like the plague since I don't suit them. For some reason this particular product works very well with the auburn hair colour. It is the devil to use though - it is in a pump - if ever a product should be in a jar, this is one of them.
