Palatine, Palatine, Palatine. Palatine. R. multiflora rootstock, much preferred for my part of NJ. Palatine has the "Fairy Tale" series from Kordes. The two that I have, Caramel Fairy Tale and Floral Fairy Tale, don't have a lick of blackspot, and I've been a slacker with spraying this year.

Then, in case you didn't get to Palatine's web site in time, Pickering (also sells grafted on R. multiflora), Witherspoon, S&W Greenhouse. Regan and Rosemania.com have nice plants, but only if it is something I really want that no one else has. Wisconsin Roses, but these are newly budded bareroots, and take a little more work (not much more, but some).

Thanks Diane, I'll check them all out. I don't remember the name Palatine at all although I do remember Pickering, S&W and Regan (Regan's site is PITA to look through).

Palatine! Think BIG plants!

Another one that is good is Palatine.

For you're neck of the woods, PALATINE!!!! Even for my area I'll order from them first. I've learned to mulch them deep during the hot part of the summer (oak leafs).

Palatine is one of the vendors I order from routinely because of their unusual selection and the fine quality of their product.

Since Palatine first appeared on the scene, posters here have raved about how BIG their plants are. I haven't found that to be the case. Maybe I've not ordered the "right" varieties, but the roses I've received from Palatine have been comparable in size to the plants I receive from Pickering.

I've come to expect Multiflora-grafted roses to be considerably smaller than bareroots on Dr. Huey. I've ordered from 3 Canadian suppliers of roses on Multiflora, & all 3 have shipped roses that are roughly the same size.

Palatine, Palatine, Palatine! I agree with others Their selection of roses is wonderful (one of the only places where I can get a lot of the newer hardy disease resistant Kordes releases, and the quality of their roses - mine have always had lots of strong healthy canes with BIG root systems. And their wonderful customer service - nice people. Jaxondel, I wonder if the particular kind of rose ordered makes a difference in root size? My other favorite bareroot vendor is David Austin because I love growing the Austin roses and this is usually the only place I can get the newer releases.

Over the years, I think I have ordered from every vendor on the net and I love PALATINE....Big healthy roots yielding big healthy roses. My second fave is also Austin.

I received humongous bareroots from Pickering last spring.

And for my tree roses, Regan.

Thanks so much everyone! Palatine seems to be a clear cut winner for NJ roses! I went to the site and saw that they are starting to take orders in a few weeks for next season so I guess I'll have to make a few decisions shortly :D

Better take a good look at where I can fit them in!

I am skipping right over the above spammed message. Seems like these people would learn no one pays any attention to the garbage they are peddling.

Two other rose venders who are wonderful are CHAMBLEES in Texas [I live 2 hours from them, they have wonderful plants] and ROSES UNLIMITED. I always get beautiful plants in gallon pots, own root and ready to grow. Great selection. For bands, Vintage Gardens and Rogue Valley. I totally agree with the above posts - Palatine, Regan, David Austin, Pickering.

One place I would not recommend is Edmunds. I ordered 10 roses, and they were mostly dried out when they arrived, and only five lived. They were quick to give me replacement vouchers, so that is a good point.

I would also recommend Wayside Gardens & Spring Valley Roses...Their's are the largest and most thriving of my new bareroot roses.

Spring Valley's roses are all own-root bareroot roses, but they are grown to be hardy, even in Wisconsin which is where they are located. They have a smaller selection, but are well worth ordering from. :)
