Suggestions on Replacement Climbing Rose after Rose Rosette

I am a novice growing roses. I had 5 Golden Shower roses planted along a split rail fence. They did beautifully for 2 years but this year became infected with the dreaded rose rosette. I have just removed them (Aug.) and was wondering if I can ever replace them with another climbing rose. I thought about just using a flowering vine but I really liked the cottage look of the roses. Soooo.. I am looking for advice from some of you rosarians.

1.) If I can replace the roses how long should I wait?

2.) Should I plant them in new holes instead of putting them in the old locations?

3.) Are there any recommendations for a different climber? Are some climbers less susceptible to rose rosette? I would like to go with a continuous or repeat bloomer. Maybe in a deep pink. This area gets great sun and circulation.
