show me pictures of your raised garden beds

I am so interested in starting a vegetable garden finally and I want raised beds. My husband is willing to construct them for me but he needs to see some pictures first! He is a very visual type guy! Please help me out......all you lovely people always have such GRAND ideas and I love to see them!

Have you thought about a water garden? I love mine. No weeding; no need to worry about over watering and lots of great therapy with happy fish to kiss your fingers. This is the pond before the plants started growing this year: It's very easy to maintain with an attached bench on one side and the deck with chairs on the other. The Samuel Roberts Nobel Foundation in Ardmore has conducted all kinds of research on raised beds the last 10 or 12 years or more. Their research is generally aimed at serious home gardeners or market growers. I've linked their "Permanent Raised Bed" handbook below. It is worth viewing just for the photos alone. They show several of the newer ways they have built and tested raised beds in recent years, using some materials you may never have considered before. Based on the material used in one of those types of beds (rubber tire "lumber"), I don't think they're especially focused on organic gardening, but I concede that not everyone is focused on using organic techniques. This is a long "article" and you can arrow through using the arrows at the left and right of each page. The Noble Foundation is a leader worldwide in all kinds of agricultural research, but using their website can require a lot of patience because it is not necessarily easy to find what you're searching for there, even when you know it is there. I've watched their research on the galvanized metal beds for years, but the other two are more recent research projects and I haven't read about them before. Love all of the curvy beds! I saw #154 at the factory in the patina copper premium finish and it was stunning. We ended up flipping a coin to choose our bed because we couldn't decide. It's the standard midnight finish, btw. Denali, your picture started me on the quest last year for a BBoV! I ended up with two brass beds (#105 and #110) from CL before also purchasing the iron bed from Pat. The #105 is headed back to the factory for an overhaul shortly... Juddgirl2, the low footboard doesn't seem to be an issue because the mattress is very close to it. I like it because it doesn't overpower the small guest room. Roxana, yes I was...95% I’d say. It still pops up but much more manageable. I go around every couple of months in spring and summer to catch stragglers but it’s almost entirely gone from lawn and easy to pull if it pops up in the bed. it was creeping up from an adjoining ditch and I battled it unsuccessfully for 10 years! Oddly, it seems to only expand in one direction. So now I’ve cut it off from my yard the ditch is even doing better. It seems not to be able to expand backwards where it has already grown and maybe depleted soil. Just my unscientific observation. Lol It also doesn’t like lime so be diligent about liming your lawn as you try to get rid of it. Aerating the lawn annually also helps improve drainage. good luck!

Dear 'D'
If you follow this link you will see the very raised bed my dad built me. It is about 33 inches high on the concrete slabs. We added them to even it out...LOL! If you have any questions please feel free to email me at therhonda@cheqnet.net But this is on my website for people with disabilities.
