11 years agoI bought one about ten years ago and absolutely love it. Looking at your link, I think it is the 158 in gunmetal and copper. It is super-sturdy. It has been moved numerous times now and still looks brand new. It has been in our guest room for a couple of years now as my husband and I have a king-sized bed now, but I still love it. I say go for it. It is still one of my favorite purchases.

Comments (9)I think the armoire could work if you changed out the hardware to iron, as suggested, and perhaps did a little antique wash on it. What will also help is the bedding you choose. If you go with very sleek and modern bedding, you will have more of a style issue than if you choose bedding that is a little more detailed, feminine, and rich in appearance. A toile might be the perfect thing to pull it all together. Or, if you are willing, you could paint the armoire, which will immediately take down the traditional formal feel a bit. You could also consider cutting out the centers of the doors where they appear to be routed, and replace that with a dark wire mesh or screen, as several people have done with cabinets. Comments (40)Skeet, I am in love with the Wesley Allen Quati in aged black! I think that is the Iron bed I should have bought and I should have bought the foot board also despite it being a tight fit. I loved it but there was not a lot of room for the footboard and I was not sure how it would look in the rustic ivory color which is what I thought at the time would look good with my Stanley bedroom set that I ended up returning. I liked the cottage white finish but the salesman talked me out of it. I like my WA Maywood Iron headboard but with the poor lighting in my bedroom, the rustic ivory color always looks dirty unless I have all the blinds open and it is sunny outside which is usually not the case since I like privacy and my Master bedroom faces the street. It also is too fancy for my Royal Cottage bedroom set I have now but looked nice with the Stanley Bedroom set that came so damaged with finished not matching in the set. The loading dock antique iron bed in that cottage white color in the picture above would look perfect in my room in a Queen size frame. I really like it also. I wish Wesley Allen would have a mat antique white or mat ivory finish which is what I really wanted and not a shiny antique white finish or a Mat white finish if I wanted to stay with the cottage look but not go with the Rustic Ivory or the cottage white (that had that chippy look with black on it rather than iron showing through). I always had a golden oak bedroom so I wanted a change when my platform bed fell apart. I really wanted Cherry wood but it was too costly so I went with Durham Royal Cottage in the White Sand finish over solid maple wood. I really needed more time to pick out a headboard but I was rushed by my friend who wanted me to make a decision and by a client that said they would pay the restocking fee if I did not like the headboard when it arrived so I would get back to their work. But he defaulted on his promise. But one thing I can say about my headboard is that it gives the bed a finished look, is very well made, gives an airy feeling to the bedroom so it is not all wood around the room since I have a lot of furniture in my bedroom. My 6" headboard (others styles that I liked better had a lower headboard and I wanted mine to be close to 6" tall) also looks like a grown-up headboard which is what I wanted and that is why I stayed away from shiny antique white. Comments (4)We have a beach cottage and I also wanted iron beds for a couple of rooms but DH is 6'4" and can't sleep with a footboard on our queen size bed. We found Wesley Allen beds at a local furniture store, which have the option of headboard only, no footboard. I don't know if they come in the finishes you want, but might be worth checking out. Ours are in a sort of white-washed/ivory color. I looked at some of the Coastal Living painted furniture when we were first looking a couple years ago, and I almost did get yellow nightstands but then (1) realized they were too big for our room and (2) worried that I'd get tired of the color after a while. Comments (14)I ordered my son's bed (a Wesley Allen) from them a few years ago and it's both well-made and attractive. The service and delivery were good, and having the bed customized to allow space for a trundle was not a problem at all. I do wish that I had asked for sample finishes to be sent prior to ordering, because the black iron finish that I ordered had a lot of silver in it and I prefer warmer tones. Also, it was a standard powder coat finish and very evenly applied, so my one regret is that the bed doesn't really look like a banged up, old antique, but most people would probably prefer that! With that being said, I think their real antique beds are a bit expensive, and since I wanted an antique iron bed for my daughter, I ended up ordering hers from Loading Dock Antiques, which IMO has antique beds more reasonably priced than either AIB or Cat House. Plus, it's a Mom and Pop type shop and they did a wonderful job refinishing the bed in a distressed, chippy finish and sending me emails and photos during the process. I can see reselling the Wesley Allen if my son doesn't want to keep it after he leaves the nest, but my daughter's bed will definitely be staying or passed down. I just ordered another iron bed (my third in two years!) for my guest room and again wanted an antique rather than a reproduction. However, since it's hard to find an antique daybed in a true twin size that works with a trundle, I ordered the iron and brass daybed from Charles P. Rogers, in the antique iron finish. A bit more expensive, but they use solid forged iron, pure brass, hand poured castings and hand applied finishes. I'm hoping the end result is a new bed that looks like and has the quality of an antique. We'll see in a month or so after it's delivered. So, that's my unsolicited review for 3 different iron bed companies! Have fun choosing one for your daughter - I just love iron beds for little girls (and big girls, but I'm stuck with my husband's choice of Mission oak). 11 years agoLove ,love ,love my bed. Mine is the 143. I originally wanted the one Namarie posted but the scale was too large for my room. It is a stunning bed. these beds are so much prettier in person. I live within a 2 hour dive of the factory and went to pick mine out there. His prices were much cheaper on line. I called Pat, the owner and he said to come on down for a tour. I'm glad I did. Each bed is simply beautiful and I had a hard time choosing one and then decide on a finish. I got to see each step of the process and it was so much fun to see how the bed was made. There were only about a handful of workers. If you watch the video on the web site, that's pretty much how it goes.
I had looked at Wesley Hall and Charles Rogers and decided on this. It is so sturdy. He also puts a brass medallion on it that says Brass Beds of VA and another engraved with what you want. I had our name date and city put on it. You can see it in the right bottom corner. The other is on the left hand side of the bed. My recomendation is to get the full footboard.Also, call Pat and talk with him about the beds to get more information.

11 years agoHere's our bed - we bought it directly from Pat at the factory in Richmond, VA. It's not curvy, but it's a little different with the two tone brass/black iron. A year later we still love it!
Also, we have an older all brass BBoV bed with a low footboard in the guest room (purchased from CL) - please let me know if you'd like to see it.

11 years agoLove all the brass/iron beds. I purchased my Wesley Allen canopy about 10 yrs ago (king); but now I'm craving a simpler style, perhaps an upholstered headboard. Oh well....here's a pic

11 years agoLove all of the curvy beds! I saw #154 at the factory in the patina copper premium finish and it was stunning. We ended up flipping a coin to choose our bed because we couldn't decide. It's the standard midnight finish, btw.
Denali, your picture started me on the quest last year for a BBoV! I ended up with two brass beds (#105 and #110) from CL before also purchasing the iron bed from Pat. The #105 is headed back to the factory for an overhaul shortly...
Juddgirl2, the low footboard doesn't seem to be an issue because the mattress is very close to it. I like it because it doesn't overpower the small guest room. Anyway, here it is:
