Apricot colors that don't fade

do you know of any apricot colored roses that don't fade, but either hold their color until the petals drop or darken?

I have Mrs. Oakley Fisher, for example. She's beautiful when in bud and first opened, but fades to a nondescript cream. Ditto winter sunset.

I'd like a rose that opens this color and stays or darkens. I like the singles, but it's the color I'm after rather than the form. Are there any that you know of? Thanks for any ideas. Annie

I live in the same area as you do so, how about Grace. Pat Austin does well if you don't mind a rose that blooms for only a couple of days (really does better with morning sun only) but blooms continuously once established and even through the heat wave of August we had. Jude the Obscure (pink apricot), Papi Delbard, Oshun, Precious Dream (pink apricot), Louise Clements, Tamora. I have a preference for apricot and apricot pink blends so it depends on how much tendancy to orange you prefer. All of these are on the East side of my house and do hold their colors quite well. HTH.

Abraham Darby (pink apricot) does not fade for me and smells wonderful. Teasing Georgia fades very little but is more yellowish than apricot.

Ok folks, I'm pretty much sold on Reve d'Or thanks to your rave reviews (thanks Ingrid and Buford). Case closed! Thanks again :) Buford, I've seen some pics of your garden - it's just wonderful, very much what I'm going for. So I think if the colours of Reve d'Or work for you, there's some hope that they'll work for me too. Thanks Jay for the great suggestions - I do hope your Adam perks up for you a bit. Some of the roses you listed are not available here, but they do look lovely - especially Clytemnestra. A lot of my neighbours grow Crepuscule very successfully (the big hedge of it just around the corner was what persuaded me to try growing roses in the first place), but it is a fairly bright apricot colour here, especially in autumn. Perhaps I would be able to grow Adam too, in that case, but I'll think of a less obvious spot for him, incase he bombs out like yours. Sidos House - Phyllis Bide has caught my attention on several occasions, but I have a few rosey friends who grow her, and she has a few drawbacks - namely, she doesn't repeat much at all, she's a thorny beast, and is not exactly a mannerly grower, from what I'm told. I have actually been lusting after Ghislaine de Feligonde a bit (I know, I said I don't do yellows...) and she reminds me of Phyllis to a degree. I saw you have a nice little GdF next to a particularly lovely garden bench. What is she like for you?

Yes Sandy, the hummingbirds do like this little tropical garden. These's a lot of activity mostly around the salvias and verbena.... Plus lately the katydids have developed a taste for canna leaves, so the kids like to catch and play with those. Woody I don't know if I have enough discipline to stick to a straight color scheme like that, I really like The idea though. I've been a fan of Helen Dillion's garden for a while and she kind of does a hot border on one side and a cool border across from it in a facing bed. If I get serious about this bed I might try something like that since it seems easier to apply to a smaller bed. I guess the red salvia does look good with the purple foliage.... Now maybe I need to think of a way to transition into the next color. Thanks for the comments, I do find myself liking bolder colors during the summer and fall.... Maybe they hold up better against the background of my dried faded tan lawn... mxk3- thanks for the honesty! There's so much I don't like about the combos in this bed in some ways a killing freeze will be a relief! I'd like to keep a tropical theme, but as of now I want to evict everything except for the rose, purple salvia, dark leaved cannas, variegated grass, and little gem magnolia. I'm not sure about the verbena and what reds to leave. Planning is always fun, but don't be offended if in the fever of next spring this space fills with coleus and elephant ears! It is an experimental bed after all, and definately a summer peaking bed.

You take a smple with the least amount of UV exposure to a reputable paint store where the pros shop, like Sherwin Williams. The color sample has to be at least quarter sized, but they can match it, no problem.

I suggest you post this on the Home Decorating forum. You will get alot more feedback than you'll get here. A colonial is not a craftsman. A bungalow is a 1 or 1 1/2 story house - not a 2 story. Craftsman homes don't have attached garages. There will be lots you can do to update this house. However, don't force it into something it's not. And don't be married to the trendy non-colors that some say are popular today ie greige. Colors of nature are always best for homes in wooded settings. head on over to Home Decorating:)

Thank you all so much for offering ideas. I looked up all of them. They're all wonderful roses.

Orchids, Grace or Oshun may be what I'm looking for. I didn't know any of those you recommended and appreciate your ideas. The spot I have in mind is not for a climber, but it is to blend in a bed with a William R. Smith on one end and Sally Holmes on the other with a hot cocoa stuck in there. So what I wanted was an apricot-pinky color. I would use Mutabilis but it would get way too large. Thanks so much.

Westerland has great color here, but it does vary. I get lots of compliments about the color of this rose. Below are 2 photos which show a newer and aging bloom.

Prairie Sunrise is a lovely apricot that holds its color from bud to spent bloom, and takes a long time to slowly open. It really holds its bloom and color well, and has been a great rebloomer for me. This Buck rose is hardy too!

Harry, that's a great picture. I don't think I can use a climber in that spot, though. thank you for posting it.

Karen, it is hard for me to resist a Bucks rose, I really like them. I might get this one too.
