Pile of horse manure--recommendations to compost

My neighbors have three horses. Noting that they tended to clean out the loafing sheds weekly, dumping the manure into a growing pile, I talked the owners into letting me have the whole thing.

This one pile has been accumulating since early summer and they have been bringing loads over to my "compost area" (which is mostly sod strippings) during this past week. I'd like to be be able to start using it in the spring.

What do I need to do to get this various aged stuff that's all jumbled together now into a usable condition by then? I assume they have either used straw or wood shavings mixed into it. Also, am I going to have a problem with horseflies or whatever biting pests lay in manure (meaning do I need to buy some sort of predator eggs as a precaution)?
