Climbing Roses lose leaves after 1st bloom

I have one pretty old climbing rose (was here when we purchased this house in 1968) and a few newer one's. They all used to bloom twice a year but the last 2-3 years they have only bloomed once and almost immediately after the flowers die, the leaves drop off. Most of the canes are still green. I normally do not cut the canes back in the fall but do some cutting back of thin/weak canes and dead canes in the spring. I have searched the web and all of the FAQs on this Garden Web and can find nothing about this problem. There were a few discussions about climbing roses with no leaves but early spring and the suggestions were to just wait. The problem I'm having is that they lose their leaves after blooming about early to mid-July. Can anyone help?
