Please tell me about rose genetics.

1. Can a dominant gene in one cultivar become recessive? How else would a usually fragrant cultivar produce a non-fragrant clone? Jack Harkness wrote of how budwood was sent to the U.S. from a "Ena Harkness" which was not fragrant, and because customers complained because that rose was famous for being fragrant, the English nursery had to send budwood from another clone of the same cultivar.

2. How many genes determine fragrance?

  1. How many genes does a rose have?

    4. How many genes cause remontancy in roses?

I read somewhere that a person thought that "Lady Hillingdon" was not a true Tea rose because it is a triploid (sp.?), Why would that matter if the growth habit expressed, most closely resembled Tea class growth habit.

If you could direct me to Intrnet articles about rose genetics I would be very grateful.
