a science question---the roots of own root roses...

hi, everyone! here is a question for the rose experts...Grafted bare roots whether they are tree rose roots or any other grafts are very thick and big I notice...

However, I noticed on young climbers (see the accompanying pic for size relevance), when I transplanted them, their roots were only as big as 1/2 a small-sized grapefruit. In other words, they were barely bigger than my small hand...

I was curious for those longtime experts who've transplanted, rearranged dug up/replanted tons and tons of own root roses, what is the growth rate and maturity size that an own root rose will grow to in terms of years/developmental stage...

I was shocked at how small the roots are compared to how big the plant looks...it would almost seem as though my pot is 40x too big, hehe! in terms of containing those roots...
