Coneflower problems

Another follow up to many people's posts about Coneflowers growing odd flowers.

Many times this is Yellow asters disease (especially with green flowers appearing), but i have also came across eriophyid mite infestation information. These too cause distorted flowers and similar witch's broom flowers. But I don't believe it is a death sentence to the plant. You should remove the flower and remove the surrounding debris in the fall and destroy both. But the plant stays.

So before you pull up your odd coneflower, do some research to make sure it is yellow aster's disease and not just a mite infestation.
