The Search Function

I think the search function is screwed up. It used to be really good, but now when I do a search for things that I KNOW there are messages about, it doesn't come back with them.

For example, I just did a search for "Belinda's Dream." I would think someone at some point in time mentioned this in a post. But only one post came up, and it was about a book someone was reading. Goofy!

Anyone else noticed this?

Yes, on another forum on GW, there were some weird responses. I tried to search for the people, and the search function said that there was no information.

Yes, this has come up a few times already. Of course, since you can't search, you wouldn't know that. ;)

Maybe if we all take a second to send them an email, they'll fix it. Link below. Switch the "nature of question" area to be technical problems.

If you start typing in the search box at the top, you'll get a drop down, from which you can select to search just in the forum you're in, so just in Fruit & Orchards.

Just as with any search engine the more specific your search term the more relevant the results. Imagine what all you would get if you search "pears" on Google or Bing. ;-) So you have to be more specific in your search terms. Yes "pears" will pull up all sorts of posts from all over the site. It tells you everything you wanted to know - or didn't want to know - about "pears" or any post pears were even discussed in regardless of title. But search terms like "canning pears", "preserving pears", "pear jam recipes', etc. - things relevant to the focus of the particular forum you are using - gets you Harvest forum posts. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/harvest/query/preserving-pears/nqrw Dave

I thought there used to be on each forum but I don't see one anywhere. Maybe the home page....I'm almost sure I tried that before and it came up with all sorts of extraneous crap.... I am positive there's a search function....

When you are on the front page of the Harvest forum, you should see two different search forms. The one to use for results from Harvest only is the one on the top. It doesn't show up well, because it is white on white with pale gray lettering. But the form is to the right (at least in my browser) of the HOUZZ logo which is in the upper left corner. It is working for me today.

Discussed many times, we've about given up. Thanks to michaelg for the info, go to Google.com and enter

site:gardenweb.com (whatever you want to search)

And it will search the gardenweb site. For example, to search for threads on the rose Belinda's Dream using Google enter

site:gardenweb.com roses Belinda's Dream

You might get other forums, but they will be helpful too.

I already complained to the "contact us" powers-that-be but they haven't fixed this search glitch and it's been messed up for months. Maybe a few more complaints will get someone's attention.

They do get rid of spam/advertising, if you tell them about it.

That's what I thought too petaloid. I know people have complained in the past, but if as many people as possible complain today while reading this thread, it might help. Can't hurt at least, right?

I noticed and reported this problem in early March or April. Since then there have been at least 5 related posts and still NOTHING--very AGGRAVATING!

I mentioned it on the Suggestions Forum, and so have others. Nothing has been done.

Thanks for the Google info, and sorry to have repeated something that's been discussed already!

I'm a newbie around here, a newbie to roses in general (except Knockouts), and I appreciate that everyone has been helpful every time I've asked for information about things! Especially since I can't find the info by doing a search - grrrrr.

I and a few others e-mailed them a month ago or so. Apparently we didn't have any more pull then a Chihuahua hitched to a dogsled. I hope IF this ever gets fixed someone will post it. I don't even bother trying to use it anymore.

Alright - I sent an e-mail AGAIN! Maybe if everyone does it at once over a holiday, they will come back to work and notice a flood of e-mails in their in box. Say, I just thought of this but I wonder if the people that "fix" these problems are even in the U.S.?

I did a search of "Best Florabundas" and nothing came up.
nor did Florabunda.
I had to search through 8 pages to find "Favorite Florabundas"
aargh.

As soon as I post this I promise to complain, yet again, about the search malfunction on the "contact us" link at the bottom of this page, making sure to choose "technical problem with our site" from the subject menu since they never answer "gardening questions."
