Spirit of Freedom is taking liberties!
Comments (3)Try self pegging, pulling the canes over to form a hoop shape. It helps keep the rose in bounds and makes it bloom more than it would otherwise. Jude The Obscure makes a huge rounded bush and does not tend to make canes suitable for self pegging. If you had something like Barbara Austin she would make a great rose for self pegging. Comments (5)Thank you, romogen your SoF images are beautiful. I sure hope my other one is the real thing and looks like yours. Thank you Marlorena. I'm happy to have RJ, but also really wanted SoF. Also, I planted it nexy to Rose de Rescht. I don't think those will look quite as good together. I guess I'll have to move yet another rose. Seems like I do that quite a bit. In my photos, RJ hadn't faded as much as it did in the following days. I never thought it looked bad though. I'lI have to go check the foliage on my other 2 roses from that order. Thanks again for your help, Julie...See MoreSpirit of Freedom and The Wedgewood Rose
Comments (38)Dave, thanks for the great review on TGG. I was wondering how light of pink it would get. I have seen flowers on the web ranging from medium pink, light pink, to white lol. It probably will be lighter in warmer weather here like the rest of my Austins. I will probably get it in the fall or next spring. I will have to think of where I can put it. It sounds pretty and I love the flower form. I like that it starts out cupped and melds into a waterlily shape. It might look good with my The Ingenious Mr Fairchild with its peony shaped flowers. It is trying to be a climber here..slowly but steadily (own root). Helen your photos of Wedgewood are delightful! I can't wait to get mine. I have heard the shipping has started for my zone (9). Super excited! I think Wedgewood and SoF are going in large pots to start out. If they get too crazy I might put them in the ground later. I need to figure out a strong trellis and where it will go. I can only hope my Strawberry Hill will be as beautiful as your photos. It has only had a few tiny blooms thus far. It has skinny canes but is trying to climb. Its still an own root baby and I am impatient lol. At least she's healthy. ~Sjn...See MoreAbridge Rose and Spirit of Freedom
Comments (4)We just had a morning rain a few days ago. It’s a welcome for my garden that hasn’t seen rain since the end of April. Here are some pics of Spirit of Freedom after the rain. Spirit of Freedom (AUSbite), a David Austin climber rose, bred in the UK (1998) and released in the UK (2002). I love this rose with its petal-packed blooms, good repeat, nice fragrance, and great health in my garden. Helen...See Moremarkiz37
