Comments (66)Pink Traviata does fantastic at nearby rose park .. that one is a beast in alkaline clay, hardy for the past 10 years. I'm putting MULCH FILM (black plastic) to kill grass for a new garden next year, but it takes 6 months to completely kill the grass, to be ready for next spring. Our cold zone zaps roses so small, it's so easy to fit into the garden. My La Reine is 1 foot by 0.5 foot, lots of blooms. My Barcelona (very hardy) is even smaller, like a mini-rose. The blooms of own-root are small too, but they get big after 4 years, if the soil is made loamy. When I first got William Shakespeare 2000, it was so small, and the bloom was 1 inch. !! Now in its 5th year, the bush is much bigger, and the bloom is at least 4 inch, I put tons of gypsum in its planting hole, which helps with zillion petals & also sulfate of potash for potassium....See MoreKordes roses performance in high heat
Comments (3)Beth, I tried to submit my Kordes roses, with pictures of most of them, my internet service is acting up, the file must have been too big or something. The Kordes roses I have are: Liebeszauber HT Beverly HT Berolina Royal William HT Poseidon Floribunda Sunsprite Floribunda Grande Amore HT Folklore HT Buxom Beauty HT Seashell hT Blue Girl, new HT Kordes Golden Gate ordered, Climber For the most part these are good roses for me, they are generally disease resistant and heat tolerant....See MoreWhat Are Your Best Performing Kordes Roses??
Comments (42)This will be my second season with Bliss Parfuma and I also love it! Extremely healthy with gorgeous blooms that last forever and a lovely bushy, well foliated shrub shape. I have found fragrance to be moderately strong in heat and very strong in cooler temperatures, which might explain how it won the Glasgow Tollcross Fragrance Award. It has a very pleasant and unusual fragrance like a jasmine-based perfume with hints of sweet fruit and…maybe shea butter? I have never grown any other modern Kordes aside from Beverly, which really does have the most amazing peach/plum/citrus fragrance. It has a very attractive growth habit for a hybrid tea and has a low thorn count. I no longer grow it because it frequently developed powdery mildew in my conditions, a weakness it must have inherited from its parent The McCartney Rose. Amongst older Kordes roses, none can be more fragrant, beautiful, charming, romantic or floriferous than Crimson Glory or Barcelona!...See MoreOpinions on your KORDES roses
Comments (109)Kate, I saw the exact thing on Pomponella at the Columbus Garden of roses which led me to search for another in that color. I'll see how much time I have 4 up keeping such a rose, but I'm getting quite a collection and would like to have only a few that require so much care. Valerie, I found my own route Florentina took a long time to bloom. And its first year last year I didn't get a one, but this year it's bursting in bloom and is sending out huge mature canes now that I finally put it in the ground. It needs a bit of time but as well worth it. Mine is in a Southern Exposure with some light dappling from a redbud tree. I think I'm going to get another one this year so it can actually Bloom by next summer! LOL I have a large garage wall and I'm mixing them in with Phyllis Bide. If those two aren't a theft deterrent I don't know what is!...See Moremichaelg
