new crapapple sucker questions

storey3

I have a couple one year old, beautiful Prairefire Crabapple. I just noticed several suckers on one of them. One of them has gotten quite tall, about 18 inches. When I tried to pull it up, it didn't budge. So, I'm here to ask how I can safely remove it without damaging my tree?

Also, I assume my tree is grafted but would like to know what would happen if I were to plant this tree in my landscape elsewhere. What type of trees do they use to graft? I don't quite understand this? My property has so few trees but does have an area of woods at the back. It's kind of sparse and offers some privacy but not enough. I'm wondering if I can plant the sucker back there just to fill it in. I could plant it at the edge where it could get plenty of sun It won't matter to me if it looks like a Prairefire but if it did, that would be awesome. I'm so impressed with how fast this tree has grown.

Thanks for your help to either of these questions.
