Why is my cherry tree dying on one side?

Jillofall

Some branches on my cherry tree died last year. First the leaves turned yellow, then the small branch died. I pruned the dead wood. This year the entire side of the tree looks sickly and the furthest, lowest branches are dying while the other side looks healthy. The healthy side does get more sun, but this is a small tree and it isn't that much different. I did notice some very minor bark damage from a lawnmower at the base on the dying side.

Has anyone got an idea why this would happen? What should I look for?

Thanks for any insite. I'm stumped.

Thanks, Kris
