I hear you! We had a lot of rain last week (several inches) and then a drenching thunderstorm yesterday, but today it is getting to 95 and 75% humidity so it is miserable to go out and try to work. I've been trying to do an hour in the morning and then another hour later in the day, but I missed this morning (had to go somewhere) and now there is no way I will go back out until at least 7:00 tonight. I've got annuals to plant and more weeds to pull, and it's too darn hot to even think about it. I'm glad I don't have too many grass weeds in my beds - you're right, they are a real pain. What we have is violets, bindweed, pokeweed and a weird sort of bamboo-like stuff that threatens to take over the entire property.

My roses like all the rain we had (I didn't have to water last week or this week) but I haven't noticed much fragrance either. I though that the fragrance was supposed to get stronger in heat, not weaker, but I don't know.

We are whining together! :)

Your poor guys!! We haven't had one day yet of 90°+ weather, nor is none in the 10-day forecast. Just rain, rain, and more rain. At least you have flowers. Mine are nothing but a soggy, drooping mess. Drink an Arnold Palmer and stay cool!

It's hot here, too. 90s every day lately and no rain in sight. Watering every day, but the roses' blooms still want to wither before they're full open. Just to top it off, some little bud worms decided its now their season to appear suddenly en masse and chew holes in the poor flowers that are already suffering the heat. Whiiiiiinne!

Serenasyh, as for weeds and crab grass, I hate lawn care. People say growing roses in pots is too much work, but all mine are potted, and at least I don't have to worry about encroaching grass. It is very clear where the boundary for the rose's space is. A little weed-whacking around the base of the pots is all I ever have to worry about there. Grass, blech!! pine bark mulch looks just as pretty to me as grass, and it never has to be mowed. lol
(ok, so maybe that last part was more kvetching than whining.)

Yeah it is hot, hot, hot. Here in southeast Georgia we are living with triple digit temps and little or no rain to cool things off. However, we all live in A/C homes and drive vehicles with A/C. The hot, hot, hot we are facing is called summertime. Soon it will be cold, cold, cold, and we will wish it were hot, hot, hot.

Fragrance might improve with some heat but when the buds blow and the petals are few, the fragrance is nil.

serena, save yourself, for the weeds get Round up. Crab grass is impossible to get rid of by hand.

It's been extremely hot and humid here. I didn't do much in the yard this weekend, too hot. Most of my roses are in a lull, so I don't have any blooms to wilt anyway.

The rain, the heat, the humidity, the bugs, and the weeds--it's like a jungle out there! The Midwest is supposed to drier than this. The crabgrass and the ground ivy are winning the fight right now, so I'm paying my teenage sons big bucks to get out there in the evenings and pull weeds out of my beds while I'm STILL planting new plants and shrubs (big sales going on now, ya know...). My poor neighbors must be so tired of seeing me, shovel in hand, looking like a mud-smeared, sweaty, frizzy-haired, skeeter-bitten wild woman every evening.

I'm gonna whine too. It is miserably hot here 95+ degrees. I'm also going out for 10 to 15 min periods to do gardening. This heat and humidity is just melting my roses. It's also taking away their scent. Bugs are also taking over. I went out to pull weeds and that's another thing that is getting ridiculous. I could take the hest, it's the humidity that gets me.

Joining the heat support group here. I am not a morning person, so I try and get most of my garden chores done in the evening as the sun is going down. But what do you do when it's already 93 degrees at 9:30 in the morning and 94 degrees at 9:00 at night? Were I to get up early around 6ish I'd be afraid to let myself handle any sharp tools for fear of loosing a limb. My bio-rhythms just don't function that early. I see now that they are considering 95-98 degrees a cool front as temps will hit the century mark for the rest of this week and beyond. I feel guilty because all I can manage is keeping up with the watering. I so need to deadhead and weed. But I console myself with thinking that no one in their right mind is going to want a garden tour in this heat. If they do I'll give them the pruners and the trowel and they can have at it.....Thanks for listening.

maryl, I had to laugh, because I too am a midnight owl person, yet still! dragged myself out of bed at 6:00 a.m. in the morning with only 3 hours of sleep, but by 7:45 a.m. I had to stop working in the garden because it was getting to be way too muggy even then! So I crawled back to bed to take a brief snooze...By the time I woke up again, I felt as though I had been hit by a train. I was so groggy and tired. And I still tortured myself with 5 minutes-at-a-time deadheading and checking out my flowers leaves and herbs, then racing back to the shelter of my house...Poor Eluane, she's got long fur, but because she is a busy-body sheepherding Border Collie, she always wants to check up on what I'm doing...she's even more of a masochist than her Mama! and will follow me faithfully out to the garden Every Single Time. And for the rest of our week it will be: 98, 97, 96,97,95 and hurray, a breakthrough turning point of ...91 on Sunday...But I'm sure 91 is nothing compared to the 100s of late July that I'm expecting.

I am making some headway towards the weed patch. Most of the Spring Flush balled & dropped, there were a few enjoyable moments.

I finally sprayed, too hot for Daconil, last night.

Kilt my very first two Japanese Beetles. I have my drowning bucket ready! Hee! Hee! Die! Die! Die!

The growing season is going way too quickly. By the time I get the snow shovel put away it is time to get it out again.

Be glad you don't have to work eight hours in it. My coworkers all wear shorts and don't ubderstand that I don't. But I cannot crawl around in flower beds without getting a rash on my arms, never mind my legs too, especially when sweaty. I made it eight hours to day, though, 95 degrees high humidity. This morning it was eighty-five and near a hundred percent humidity.

Hot is one thing, I can adjust. But last week it was in the seventies all week? Where is our transition?

It is full summer like here in Alabama and has been for a couple of weeks. This is July and August type weather in early to mid June. id to high 90s with heat index 100 and 100+.

We really need rain too. Ah well. I don't guess spring is in the cards for us this year.
