Cost of washing laundry - hot/hot cold/cold hot/cold????

I thought for sure this was just discussed here recently, yet when I looked it up I wasn't able to find it.

Anyway, I looked up the cost of washing laundry. I came across this page - http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/laundry.html

and there is a chart on there that shows the cost of electricity for using various temperatures of water.

I wash nearly everything on hot/cold because I feel like I'm not killing germs if I don't. I talked to my Mother In Law about it today and she said that she washes everything in cold except for her whites.

The price difference is really interesting. 4 cents per load for washing in cold/cold versus the 42 cents per load for the hot/cold. I think my Mother in law is very smart and normally when she gives me advice on something I feel good about doing things the way she recommends. However, tonight when I went to wash laundry I stood there struggling with myself over which one to use and ended up on hot/cold again. *sigh*

I'm not saying that I am the laundry washing master and I have all the answers and my way is the right way. That is why I am here. How do YOU wash your laundry? And why do you do it the way that you do??
