I lways give the roses a look see if my local grocery store has some fresh ones. I figure it won't hurt and they may quite possibly have an exceptional variety I've been looking for. Time to enlarge your rose beds.

I got Heritage at Walmart and provided she isn't mislabelled (will know soon. ) she is very healty and has plenty of buds. Paid about $12.

Last year June I found 6 Knockout Rosa Radrazz at in a knockdown sale ( no pun intended) at Kmart in Lebanon NH for $10.00 ea planted straight away and even after 5' snow in our yard over winter they are looking brilliant this year loads of growth. So this year went to K Mart again and would you believe another sale and the price was $7.00 each. They certainly didnt look to good, but after a good trim away of all the rubbish I planted them and they are smiling, so fingers crossed, I will keep you posted.

They had 'Dream Come True' for $10 at the grocery store the day after Mother's Day, but I didn't get it. No more room. :( A few places here get a bunch of plants in right before Mother's Day to offer as last-minute purchases, so the day after Mother's Day is often a good time around here to find a bargain.

Well, I think you have made a wise choice. Tamora is the Queen of Harry's garden again this spring.

Holy cow. how gorgeous!!!! I fondled a potted one at the nursery yesterday...it was the only one on blom that had such an intriguing scent. TERRIBLY sorry I didn't get it, now! :o( Got a refund for my appears-to-be-dying Ebb Tide and couldn't decide on another rose.

Congratulations! You never know where you will find a great buy. Where I live there is a market that purchases from Weeks Roses, and a hardware store that has top quality roses for $20.00. The most expensive nursery in town pots up bare roots in November and sells them in March for $35.00. I am amazed that they sell so many. I just purchased Tamora earlier this year and Im waiting for my first bloom.

OMG Harryshoe - what a beautiful bush! Light peachy/apricot is my favorite rose color, so I have wanted Tamora for a while. Your pictures have inspired me as to what good care will do for this rose. I also am curious about her scent, which many love but some hate, evidently. Your garden looks immaculate too - sigh, I have much to strive for.

Thanks to everyone who shares my joy over finding hidden treasures in the oddest places. Yes, I was not happy to find our expensive nurseries are just potting up bare roots - same thing we can do here - so while I will buy potted roses it is very rare I will pay full price. I could mail order but I usually only do that for specialty items, like minis and my one own root Lemon Spice (which hasn't performed all that well for $25). The few times I have struck gold at Walmart - the plant quality was impressive - I have a very nice "New Year" from them that has a delicious tangerine color (too bad it gets BS, but does re-leaf out fast.)

Greenhaven, I am very intrigued by Ebb Tide, I would try her if I can find her cheap, some people here seem to think she is great - other times it seems her performance is unimpressive?

stone garden, this is my first year with Ebb Tide; in fact, my first year with just about all my roses, lol! So I don't have much data to compare.

I bought two bareroots from Dutch Gardens this Spring, and they arrived moist, green, and very large. I soaked them, pruned black tips from the canes, and planted them in large-dug holes with the right amendments. One has done well, putting on growth and a couple buds. The other one cankered WAY down, and is defoliating. I expect it will die shortly.

I'll let you know how she does.

Trim below the canker and keep your fingers crossed. Sometimes they bounce back amaze you.

triple_b, I would have to trim all the canes below the ground. :o( I don't hold a lot of hope. DG was really sweet about refunding the price of the plant.
