Best Red, Pink, White, or Blend of These
Comments (5)You might consider the pretty pink, Belinda's Dream. It's a true pink and has the high center of a hybrid tea (a hybrid tea is in its parentage), but it has much better disease resistance than most, if not all, hybrid teas. Many people can grow Belinda's Dream without having to resort to chemical sprays at all to keep down blackspot. It makes good cut flowers but has little fragrance. For a red, Maggie is looking good to me. I'm less certain about its health in a no-spray yard than about Belinda's Dream, but some people who have it have said that they don't use chemical sprays on it. Low in thorns, its fragrance is reputed to be wonderful. For a white HT, you might consider Pope John Paul II. For a hybrid tea, it's fairly disease resistant, and you might stand a chance of getting by without using chemicals to keep it looking reasonably presentable. Good fragrance and good for cutting, though it doesn't last as long as some others. Best wishes for a happy retirement ahead! Comments (0)I have a prominent wall near my back door (the door everyone uses) that needs a new rose. I've had Altissimo there for years but have developed a deep dislike for it. While I love my other singles, I think I'd really a double/cupped type rose for this area. Good repeat bloom is important here. Since the wall is tan/beige, I was thinking that red or deep pink would be best. Something tall and narrow or a self-supporting climber, 6 feet or so. I was thinking about: Maggie Mme. Isaac Pereire (not sure about rebloom) Quadra (I already have this one, still very small, not sure if it is self-supporting) Cadenza (not so OGR looking?) M. Tiller ( perhaps not hardy enough for me?) Thanks for any suggestions! Maureen...See MoreBest pink and red floribundas
Comments (3)Lavaglut is a blackish red for me here, and I would expect it to be dark all season in a cooler climate. Two easy to grow and winter-hardy reds are Eutin and Europeana. Should be easy to find those in a public garden so you can see the true color in your soil and climate. Gene Boerner is a lovely rich pink, very easy to grow and lots of blooms. Sea Pearl is a pink blend and can be quite apricot at times; a gorgeous thing if you can grow it well (not easy). If you'd consider a Buck shrub, check out Country Dancer-- a beautiful rich pink which covers itself with bloom. Very winter-hardy& easy to grow. My test of a good garden rose is, will someone driving by slow down for a better look? Gene Boerner & Europeana are like that. So's Country Dancer!...See MoreDark Pink/ Red Brugs
Comments (37)Boy, I'll tell ya, it is so hard to know exactly what you are looking at and apparently, easy to be fooled. The brug above and the one at the link below are supposed to be the same: "Painted Lady". I know it has to do with cameras and lighting (and sometimes Photoshopping), but I wish photos of brugs were more consistent. I love the Twizzler Brug, SJN!!
