Straight From the Runway: Orange and Pink
Give your home a spring-forward makeover with this hot color combo from NY Fashion Week
So, summer is on its way out here in the U.S., and fall is on its way in. I, for one, am not ready to let the warm days go. But thanks to New York Fashion Week, which is going on as we speak, I can skip over fall and winter entirely and look straight at trends for spring 2012. I must say, I like what I'm seeing.
A favorite trend is the combination of oranges and reds with pink. Oranges and reds are ubiquitous fall colors, and many people like to inject a few subtle nods to the seasons in their decor. This year, why not take a cue from fashion's top dogs and add a jolt of pink to your mix of autumnal colors? You can rest assured that the color combo will keep you warm and festive through the dark days of winter, (unless you love winter and don't find the days dark), and it will still be fresh and on-trend come spring!

J.Crew didn't mess around for Spring 2012. Clearly, the philosophy is NO FEAR. This bedroom is channeling the same feeling, with two bright colors working in concert to create an exciting composition. Tossing in a great pattern in a high-volume color will rejuvenate a room in no time!
As if it were straight out of this jazzy Peter Som ensemble, this living room design, uses pink and orange hues as a baseline, while blue, yellow, green and natural tones create a stunning palette that will never get stale.
Much like this look from Vivienne Tam, one bright color takes center stage, while other tones are muted in comparison. A similar look is easy to achieve without breaking the bank. It's all about accessories in this space, from framed pictures to fresh flowers to a snappy lamp and doodads on the console.
While pinks, reds and oranges are inherently bold, taming them with classic silhouettes and just the right amount of pattern and sheen will result in a tailored look, like this one from Christian Siriano. Shots of soft pink and bold orange give this living room an unexpected and much-appreciated jolt of excitement without sacrificing any of the sophistication. Well done!
Here's another example of refinery via boldness. This bedroom displays the designer's command of composition of color, hue, pattern and texture.
The introduction of one great pattern has the ability to transform any space. This pillow, as well as that little painting on the floor, are subtle additions, but they make a big impact on the overall design.
Wild colors can be tamed with patterns and textures to achieve a highly sophisticated space, such as this bedroom, where the colors pop, but the tailored pieces and varying textures result in a very sharp vignette. The unstoppable Marc Jacobs makes it all look effortless in this look from his Spring 2012 collection, where a tailored coat brings an element of classic refinement to this adventurous outfit.
Suzani Pillow Cover
Ok, one more pillow. Here's why they work so well: If you're not sure about introducing such a saucy color combination, take baby steps with a toss pillow or two. They're a super low-cost, low-committment way to experiment with injecting new color ideas that can easily be removed if you determine they're not for you.
