What can I plant behind a hydrangea?

I'm planning a hedge of all summer beauty hydrangeas (supposedly get about 3 ft. high) along the side of my patio. I will have about 2 ft. behind them to fill.... I think I want them to be in front so that they kind of spill over onto the patio. What perennials can I plant behind them for height? Preferably, late spring, early summer blooming.... There will be plenty of blooms come late June when the hydrangeas bloom, but nothing there before. I would love to try some foxglove. Anything else I could put in there with them? Are there any peach leaf bellflowers that get up that high? The bed faces west, but is slightly shaded by trees. Gets about 4-5 hours of sun 2-6pm
