I've got Buds! Buds! Buds!

On my ICU babies! Problem is I also have Powdery Mildew starting. Ergh! If this darned Spring would just WARM UP!!! It's almost June, for crying out loud!

So...treat the PM or leave it? I really want to have a no-spray garden or at least organic remedies. I also don't want mildews and funguses killing all my cool stuff.

Thanks for a great link, triple_b. I know it is supposed to be a preventative, but I wenty ahead and sparyed the roses with the Peter Beales Good Health Roses spray I had the foresight to order with my GM Roses. I figure at least the uninfected ones can get some protection. Garlic sure sounds a lot cheaper to do!

With all the freakout about the PM I forgot the main point of my post, and that was the buds themsleves! I am so stinking excited I can hardly stand it! This year I bought a rose with buds already on it, and I have my old mystery rose under the tree that came with the house. But these roses I chose and potted myself, and I am tremendously satisfied to see them coming to life and fulfilling their destiny.

I LOVE plants, love to see things emerging in the Spring, love to see fruits of my labors.

I think I have lot left to learn....and I relish the opportunity and challenge.

I think there are a few weeks to go before it freezes here! I, on the other hand, have been disappointed with how hot it has been for September in Colorado, because I just divided a bunch of perennials hoping cool weather was imminent so they'd have an easier time establishing. 80-degree weather is not great for plants stuck into the ground with hardly any roots. I think I lost some of the oriental poppies I took root cuttings from and some of the other plants are looking pretty sorry. Anyway, I'm in Colorado also, growing brugs indoors and out. Are yours in pots? If so, and if the "big freeze" comes and they are still blooming or have not yet bloomed, they will be perfectly happy to continue blooming in the warm house for a couple more weeks until finished. If you can set one in front of a sliding glass door, that's great. But even if you don't have the best light, they will continue blooming until the current crop runs its course, then they will return to a more vegetative growth or start going dormant. A full crop of brugmansia flowers in the house has a very intense scent that penetrate absolutely everything at night; its pretty intoxicating. I've put them in the garage before and they kept putting out new flowers in total pitch-black darkness for about 3 weeks. First, the leaves dropped. Then the newly-opening flowers became smaller and paler, until finally the remaining small buds dropped and the plants went dormant. It didn't seem to hurt them at all and they happily came out of dormancy in the spring.

lucyb00ts, in my experience more fruits fall off when the tree is undernourished. Citrus like a lot of nitrogen, so a food with an NPK ratio of 3-1-1 or 5-1-3 is the usual recommendation. I prefer a timed-release formula, but any method will do as long as the tree gets what it needs on a consistent basis. Meyers will flower and fruit all year so they need feeding all year. Unfortunately the fruit you get is a result of the feeding of 6 months ago (or more) so it's a bit frustrating. I assume you're planning to move it out in the sun again when the weather cools a bit. Sun is also helpful for fruiting. As far as your 2 branches go, it isn't obvious to me from the photo whether one is a sucker. Do you know the tree was grafted? Sometimes Meyers are grown on their own roots. If the growth on both sides looks the same (same leaves, bark, flowers, etc.) it may actually be the same. You will know more when you finally get some fruit. Sorry I can't help more!

Must be something in the air!! For the first time in August, one of my BLUE CHIP PINK plants is blooming, and my reliable rebloomer, SUMMER HOLIDAYS has several buds. I have had both plants many years.

I am having to agree with you Katya last year I couldn't cover up any of my roses for the winter due to the snow arriving here in Oct!!!! And my nearby garden centre had ran out burlap. I also was going thru a fun time with pulled muscles in my arm, shoulder and upper inside the leg. So had to go for therapy. Came down with a nasty head cold during xmas. I was having a fit thinking they all had died on me but they proved to me how tenacious they really are!!!! Not one rose died!!!!! And you should see them now. Buds galore on the shield, the campfire, the at last rose, my newest blaze rose and the double knockout pink. My Always and Forever rose is getting lots of leaves on it and is slowly going from red to green. My Strike it rich rose has a big bud on it and my chinook sunrise is so healthy. Only one that didn't was the Lizzie rose but it was having issues before the winter even came. When it died on me I got a coral dawn to replace it. And like wow had no buds on it. Now is getting all kinds of them on it. The one lady that lives a door down from me in the building we are in cut them all back for me since I couldn't do it this year. Thanked her for it. In fact one year I gave her a big bloom off my Always and Forever Rose in a fancy jar. Went on to get 4 more rose blooms off it.

Yes I only just 'got into' roses last year although I have enjoyed growing things for much longer than that. I have learned alot here.
(Sometimes I crack lame jokes but I AM learning folks, honest!)
There's just something so gratifying and even healing in growing things.

This time of year, when everything is so green and robust, is the ultimate rush for a gardener. Just a few short weeks ago it was brown and dead looking. Even without blooms, my garden is satisfying because it is reborn and it just carries my spirit along with it.
