Whole Foods Compost has clay added good for sandy soil

I was very disappointed with how Whole Foods compost when downhill, and now they have changed the bag to say, it includes what they call forest products. This is saw dust and some kind of chipped wood that is too big to breakdown. I also found lumps of clay. I broke them down and added them anyway, and now I am seeing some benefit. I have 100 sand soil. I live in San Francisco on filled in land. Without compost, I could not even have a garden. The lack of clay means many plants tend to blow over and get uprooted by wind. I think roses like some clay. I am wondering if anyone ever considers the addition of clay to a sandy soil? I know it would take years to see any major benefit. Since the whole foods compost is so variable, I might try some again to get the clay. I only wish they would stop with the wood chips. Those are very annoying.
